Slick shooter Echo Point Nova introduces a new shotgun that’ll make Doom quiver

What’s the best videogame shotgun? I’ve always been partial to the Gears of War Gnasher and MW2 Model 1887 akimbo, but there’s one weapon that stands tall above the rest: Doom’s Super Shotgun. The double-barrel death machine is unmatched. It’s loud, powerful, and truly unforgiving in a way many shotguns can only dream of. Well, one of my favorite modern FPS experiences just took a leaf out of Doom’s book, and introduced a boomstick to rival the best. This is Echo Point Nova, and it’s even on sale right now.

If you’ve never played Echo Point Nova, it’s an inventive mix of some of the best games around. Developer Greylock Studio infuses large, sci-fi open-world playspaces with Doom’s iconic shooting, Titanfall’s unparalleled sense of movement, and Tony Hawk’s skateboard. The FPS game is all about freedom, speed, and tight gunplay – there’s nothing else quite like it.

You can play Echo Point Nova alone or in co-op, too, as you bounce between islands looking for weapons and perks to help you take on some truly gigantic bosses. EPN has even achieved the highly-coveted ‘overwhelmingly positive’ Steam rating from over 5,000 reviews and counting, showing how beloved this gameplay loop is.

Earlier this year Greylock Studio released a free update filled with new weapons and a roguelike game mode, and the latest patch comes with even more ways to play. For starters, there’s an absolutely devastating sawn-off double-barrel shotgun. It hits like a truck at close range with a wide spread, while an extended barrel attachment offers up true skeet shooting. If you’ve been waiting for a long-lost relative of Doom’s Super Shotgun to rear its head, this is it.

There’s also the all-new MR3006 bolt action sniper rifle, for true long-range shooting and stopping power. The old DMR has also been added to the assault rifle category and had its magazine extended, turning it into much more of an all-rounder than it was before.

As Echo Point Nova takes place on a series of floating islands above the clouds, you can find these new weapons in two areas that have just been added to the game. There are two more perks as well, which buff both sniper and shotgun weapons in an effort to make your extra firearms sing.

EPN’s aim assist has also been vastly improved after player feedback. You can now change how strong the feature is, giving you more control in gunfights. Considering how much this game relies on slick, slow-motion trick shots, pulling off the coolest moves imaginable should now be easier than ever.

Greylock Studio is selling Echo Point Nova at a 33% discount on Steam right now, so you can expect to pay $16.74 / £14.06 until Saturday April 26. Just head here.
