Marvel Rivals support heroes will be getting some love in an upcoming update

In pretty much every role-based multiplayer game, there always seems to be heated discussions, complaints, and controversies around the support role. Selfless and strategic, its a role that can be hard to fill, massively overpowered or underpowered, or left out in the cold when it comes to new additions. Recently, it’s been Marvel Rivals support players making all the noise, and they’re so annoyed about the state of Strategist heroes that a boycott of the support role is being pedaled online. Well, in a new blog post addressing a couple of pain points in Marvel Rivals, NetEase says that some Strategist buffs will be arriving in a future update.

Support players have been pretty vocal about the state of Strategist heroes in Marvel Rivals Season 2, claiming that it’s harder than ever to viably play a supporting role in the multiplayer game. NetEase has now acknowledged this, and promises that it will soon “enhance the damage capabilities of certain Strategists to elevate their threat levels, which in turn, will increase team composition possibilities.”

Looking more broadly across all roles, it also teases a few balance changes that it intends to make in the next Marvel Rivals update. Vanguard heroes Groot and Captain America are going to be hit with “slight reductions in survivability,” Spider-Man will be receiving a damage range decrease to his Amazing Combo, Doctor Strange will get a small buff as he’ll require less energy for his ult, and so too will Winter Soldier who will see changes to his Tainted Voltage and Team-Up abilities.

It doesn’t sound like there will be a tidal wave of balancing changes before the mid-Season 2 update hits in a few weeks, with NetEase saying that it wants “to be cautious, keeping changes minimal to enhance the experience of certain heroes without drastically altering the overall meta.”

In this new blog post, NetEase also acknowledges another complaint from Strategist players – that there’s a disparity between the amount of performance points earned in ranked matches. “We’ve noticed that, compared to previous seasons, a small number of Duelists have a slight advantage in performance ratings in Season 2.0, while some Vanguards and Strategists face a slight disadvantage,” the developer says. “However, most heroes remain balanced. In the upcoming patch, we will optimize the performance rating calculations based on the latest data to ensure fairness across all heroes.”

There’s currently no release date set for Marvel Rivals’ next update, but hang in there, support players – changes are afoot.
