Project Diablo 2 Season 11 is shaking up builds with new items and runewords

Path of Exile 2. Last Epoch. Diablo 4 Vessel of Hatred. Torchlight Infinite. We’re spoilt for choice when it comes to ARPGs in 2025, and that’s only going to grow as we see the launches of Titan Quest 2 and Grim Dawn Fangs of Asterkarn. Yet sometimes you crave the classics; the call of one of the best RPGs ever made. Project Diablo 2 is the answer to that desire. The fan-created mod is keeping D2 alive in a way Blizzard seems uninterested in attempting, and lead ‘SenpaiSomething’ has now revealed a first look at what’s coming with Project Diablo 2 Season 11.

I recently lamented that Blizzard has all but abandoned working on Diablo 2 since the launch of its big sister Diablo 4. D2R’s official Season 10 launch brought nothing more than a simple ladder reset; it feels like a far cry from the early days of Resurrected, where we got new runewords and features such as Terror Zones. But that just leaves more room for Project Diablo 2 to shine with its motto of maintaining and updating the classic RPG “as if development never ceased.”

If you’ve yet to experience PD2, I’d say it’s the definitive way to play Diablo 2 if you’re coming back to it now. It adds new items, uniques, and runewords, balances those that felt underwhelming to give them a second chance at life, and introduces lots of endgame content including a Path of Exile-inspired mapping system, group-based dungeons, and challenging uber boss fights.

Speaking of uber boss fights, Season 11’s first change is to bring last season’s newest threat, Lucion, to non-ladder and single-player modes. There’s also another map type being introduced, the Imperial Palace. The most exciting additions are the new and reworked unique items and runewords. The Constricting Loop ring boosts your cast rate, dramatically boosts your strength, and has a chance to cause monsters to flee. However, it constantly drains your health, albeit with a life-on-kill modifier to give you a chance to replenish it.

Shields get a new runeword, Epiphany (made with ‘LoIthLoIst’) that grants you energy shield, bonus attributes, defense, lightning damage, lightning and poison resist, and maximum mana. It also turns 15% of damage you take into mana, and boosts your magic find by 30%. The unique vortex shield, Skywarden, gives Paladins boosts to their offensive auras and all Paladin skill levels, grants a chance to cast Cyclone Armor when you block, and also comes with plenty of additional defense and elemental resists.

Assassins get a unique war fist, Whispering Mirage, which causes your melee attacks to deal splash damage, grants faster cast rate and bonus Assassin skill levels, cuts through enemy physical resistance, and allows you to summon one additional Shadow. It also provides further levels to Shadow Master and Shadow Warrior. On top of these, the Firelizard’s Talons feral claws and Ebonbane bow have both been reworked, and throwing weapons can now all obtain sockets, with several runewords able to be used with them.

There are also plenty more changes to look forward to when Season 11 drops. Oblivion Knights have been reworked and will now have a percentage chance to cast curses, rather than always doing so. Pre-buff skills such as Battle Orders, Shout, and elemental Enchants are now enabled in town. There’s also a rework for the Trang-Oul’s set that makes its bonuses easier to get and improves the vampire form full set bonus with a faster cast rate, more poison and magic damage, and the ability to apply an additional curse.

We’ll be sure to bring you the Season 11 launch date when it’s announced, but in the meantime you can always take a look through the best games like Diablo to keep you busy, or check in with the best classic PC games you can still play in 2025.
