The Last Epoch Season 2 patch notes might be the most exciting ARPG news we’ve had in 2025 so far. Its launch in 2024 staked a claim as a serious challenger to the likes of Diablo 4 and Path of Exile, and developer Eleventh Hour Games has been hard at work building new features and polishing the aspects it already shined in. Now, the second season is imminent, and game director Judd Cobler talks us through the biggest upgrades coming with the new patch. From new crafting systems to a dramatic endgame expansion, there are a lot of reasons to be excited for Last Epoch Tombs of the Erased.
Last Epoch Season 2 was actually supposed to be out already, but EHG pushed the launch back to step out of the way of Path of Exile 2 Dawn of the Hunt. At the time that felt like an unfortunate instance of a smaller studio being outmuscled; in the wake of PoE 2’s rough second-season launch, however, it might end up working in Last Epoch’s favor. While GGG has already been making big improvements to course correct, I’ve certainly noted a lot of increased anticipation for the changes coming to Eleventh Hour’s action RPG.
Tombs of the Erased introduces another faction to the mix – we’ve encountered the Weaver before, but now we’re getting to meet their followers, the Woven. The endgame now features new tombs and cemeteries where the Weaver “has been experimenting with souls and memories.” These areas will see you cracking open cocoons to unleash souls that will possess nearby enemies, granting them more power but causing them to drop a currency called Memory Amber.
Completing one of these zones also allows you to enchant one of your class-specific idols, objects you slot into a special inventory grid for additional stat boosts. These enchantments grant an additional affix along with some points of Weaver’s Touch, which enables the idols to grow even stronger as you use them. If you want to reroll an enchantment, you can spend Memory Amber to do so, ensuring you won’t ruin your best idols with a bad roll.
Woven Echoes are new itemized endgame maps that drop from the Weaver areas and can also be bought at certain merchants. There are 36 types and they give you access to a wide range of fresh areas featuring challenges, objectives, and even boss fights that you won’t have seen before. There are also enhanced variants of older bosses, including Uber Aberroth – an even harder version of Season 1’s pinnacle boss, who promises to be a very difficult fight even for the best players wearing full endgame builds.
You don’t need to reach the very peak to find new rewards, however; Woven Echoes include all manner of other rewards from special unique items and never-before-seen crafting methods to drops that will allow you to ramp your alt characters’ progression through the endgame to help them catch up to your starting class. You’ll also earn rank with The Woven – this upgrades much like the existing factions, but isn’t exclusive, meaning you can still be part of the Circle of Fortune or Merchant’s Guild.
The Weaver Tree is a sprawling web of upgrades that feels like Last Epoch’s answer to Path of Exile’s Atlas. It allows you to enable modifiers and more risk/reward challenges that can appear during endgame Echoes. There are some very cool features in here – one slot allows you to embed an item you really like, granting you a dramatically increased drop chance for items of similar type and rarity upon completing Echoes.
There are several areas where Last Epoch feels at the peak of the genre right now, from its built-in, customizable loot filter to its tremendous sense of class identity, but the crafting system might be my favorite part. It feels at once approachable and deep, allowing you to chip modifiers off items you don’t want to forge them onto those you do. With Tombs of the Erased, EHG is introducing a new system that allows you to craft set items.
Another of the best crafting systems, Legendary Potential, is being improved. This stat, which allows you to ‘slam’ an item with great stats into one of your uniques to infuse it with a random selection of those bonuses, is becoming easier to work with. There’s a new way to reroll the Legendary Potential on an item if it’s too low to feel worthwhile, and completing tier-two or higher Temporal Sanctums will let you choose an affix to guarantee that it transfers, ensuring that you’ll never miss the strongest one.
The Relic of the Observer is a great way to save items that aren’t quite right for your build, allowing you to swap out one of the core stats a piece provides for another of your choosing by spending just one Forging Potential (the stat that determines how many times you can craft an object). The Woven Offering, meanwhile, lets you sacrifice one powerful item to reroll the mod and implicit values of a matching item, and the Thaumaturgy Device lets you replace a prefix with a double-stacked experimental affix.
There are also new crafting consumables to be discovered, giving you even greater control over how you modify your gear. The result of all these additions is an endgame where, no matter what you want to do to improve your build, it feels like there’s a specific goal you can work towards to earn the ability to do it. With the endgame of Last Epoch previously feeling enjoyable but a little shallow, these changes dramatically flesh out your options while also expanding on the game’s excellent crafting tools.
While the focus is on all the new Weaver-related content, that doesn’t mean EHG has left the existing Monolith of Fate to rot. Expect to find plenty of fresh touches there, too, along with extra objectives, more snappy horde modes, and Echo Spires that will no longer snipe you from the other side of the map. Dungeons now let you use keys to respawn (unless you are playing in hardcore), and two new charms to modify them have been introduced – one dramatically boosts the number of Loot Lizards you’ll encounter, while the other transports you immediately to the boss fight.
We’re still not done. The Sentinel – perhaps the least-loved of the Last Epoch classes – has been dramatically reworked, including heavy overhauls to the passive trees for its Paladin and Void Knight subclasses. Additionally, one of the most common requests has finally been granted; you’ll now be able to respec your chosen subclass (or mastery, to use the game’s parlance) by returning to Chronomancer Lerinne, providing you bring enough gold to do so.
Beyond that comes a wealth of other class improvements across the roster, along with balance changes for numerous existing skills and items alongside the new ones. EHG says the full list “represents over 100 pages internally of patch notes and is officially our largest patch to date.” There are even a hefty number of quality-of-life upgrades to be found.
Controller targeting has been significantly overhauled, with unique focusing across different skills to better deliver the results you’re likely to be aiming for. There’s also a beta test for WASD keyboard movement, which you can enable through the menu, and the ability to toggle on automatic storage for crafting items so that you don’t have to keep clicking a button to put them away.
