Final Fantasy VII Remake producer and Square Enix’s brand manager for everything Final Fantasy related Yoshinori Kitase admitted in a recent interview that he’d be more than happy to see a movie or TV show adaptation of Final Fantasy VII.In fact the word he used was “love,” when speaking to Danny Peña during the interview in question. Though he was also sure to clarify that this isn’t a signal of anything to come anytime soon, since he adds that there currently isn’t any plans to turn Final Fantasy VII into a movie or TV show.If that were to happen though, you would almost be able to call it a whole new remake for the game that’s gotten the biggest remake treatment of practically any game in the industry’s history.“We don’t have anything officially planned and so this is just strictly my personal sort of wish,” Kitase began, “but yeah, I’ve heard about various Hollywood directors and actors playing Final Fantasy VII, and many creators also respect the title.”“I’ve been hearing things about creators out there who are very interested in the property, who love the Final Fantasy VII universe, and so yeah, personally I’d love to see something that comes out of these creators, in terms of like a cinematic or some kind of visual piece.”Film and TV adaptations of video games have gotten increasingly popular since the first Sonic the Hedgehog film released and wasn’t entirely awful. From there we’ve gotten truly excellent works with shows like Fallout and of course HBO’s The Last Of Us.A Final Fantasy VII film or TV show has plenty of potential to join the ranks of something like HBO’s The Last Of Us, but there’s still a lot that would need to happen from it being Kitase’s personal wish to a Final Fantasy VII film or TV show being a reality.Veteran fans of the franchise will remember that there was already a movie based on Final Fantasy VII with Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, an animated CG film from 2005. Though in that case the film carried on the game’s story, instead of re-treading it.Source – [Danny Peña via VGC]
