Yankees vs. Rays prediction and odds for Saturday, May 6

Byadmin

May 6, 2023

This was the New York Yankees division last season, but a month in it is clear that the AL East runs through the Tampa Bay Rays in 2023.

The Yankees enter the weekend last in the division nearly double-digit games behind the Rays. For Saturday, Game 2 of this three-game series New York will turn to Domingo German.

German heads into this start with a 4.46 ERA and a record of 2-2. He’ll be opposed by Drew Rasmussen who is 3-2 in six starts with a 3.66 ERA. Tampa Bay has the best record in baseball and they have one of their best pitchers on the mound on Saturday, so it’s no surprise that they are the favorites at Tropicana Field.

Yankees vs. Rays prediction and pick

What the Rays have offensively is absolutely absurd and frankly feels unfair. As a team their OPS is .876 and they have six players who get regular at-bats that have an OPS over .900. Their catcher, Christian Bethancourt, is the weak spot in their lineup and he has a .781 OPS with five home runs already this year. The Yankees only have two players with that many homers on the year, Anthony Rizzo and Aaron Judge.

The Yankees have no players with an OPS over .900 and only five players with an OPS north of .600. Outside of Aaron Judge, who has missed some time and isn’t nearly as dominant as he was last year, New York has gotten virtually no production. Apologies to Anthony Rizzo who has been solid, but they’ve given 92 at-bats to Oswaldo Cabrera who is hitting .196 and has 19 strikeouts to just four walks, and no power to speak of.

This is such an insane talent mismatch, but you won’t really see that in the pricing of these games. I love the Rays to dominate this series and extend their lead on the rest of the AL East.
