The Black Myth: WuKong achievements remain in limbo. Multiple reports now claim that the Black Myth: Wukong Xbox delay is down to a PlayStation exclusivity deal. Black Myth: Wukong Xbox delay down to PS5 exclusivity deal, reports claimAction-RPG Black Myth: Wukong was originally down to launch on both Xbox Series X|S and PS5 on August 20, but just two months before the game’s release, developer Game Science revealed that the Xbox version had been delayed so the studio could further optimize the game. Rumors about these technical issues have persisted in the months that followed, but now a new report from Forbes, which both IGN and Windows Central have also corroborated, suggests there is an exclusivity deal in place keeping one of the biggest games of the year from coming to Xbox. “The reason Black Myth: Wukong is not currently on Xbox is due to an exclusivity deal, not because of some sort of technical issue causing a delay in the release of the game,” Forbes’ Paul Tassi reports. As for IGN, Kat Bailey writes, “IGN understands that no tech issue that would delay Black Myth: Wukong has been reported to Xbox. Rather, the Xbox delay is the result of an exclusivity deal neither Game Science nor Sony have publicized, the source said. The source described the rumors of tech issues on Xbox as ‘inaccurate.'”It should be noted that some insiders disagree with these reports. XboxEra’s Nick Baker said on X, “I heard there was a misunderstanding around this stuff. I heard Sony only paid to help get the port done. No exclusivity.” Giant Bomb’s Jeff Grubb also said, “Sony has no money marketing deal keeping the game off Xbox.” Talk of an exclusivity deal first sprang up in June when Windows Central quizzed Microsoft on Black Myth: Wukong’s Xbox delay. At the time, a Microsoft spokesperson issued a statement saying, “We’re excited for the launch of Black Myth Wukong on Xbox Series X|S and are working with Game Science to bring the game to our platforms. We can’t comment on the deals made by our partners with other platform holders, but we remain focused on making Xbox the best platform for gamers, and great games are at the center of that.”The whole situation is very odd, but if the reports of Black Myth: Wukong’s exclusivity deal are accurate, who knows when we’ll be able to get our hands on what could have been one of this year’s best Xbox games.
