Here is everything we found about WoW SoD Phase 3. Learn what comes next to World of Warcraft’s Season of Discovery in the near and far future.
The second phase of Season of Discovery has just been released and we’re already looking towards what the future of Blizzards Classic experiment holds. On top of a fully reworked Endgame and Raid, the Season of Discovery offers a new way to experience Azeroth with new skills, item combinations, and runes which significantly change up the class you’re playing.
But as we’re getting settled in weekly Gnomeragan runs and start leveling our alts, there is still much more to look forward to in the future of Season of Discovery. And that is what the recent developer Update was all about. so here are our Highlights.
WoW SoD Phase 2 and Beyond
Let’s get the big one out of the way. The current level cap for Season of Discovery is set at level 40. Starting from March 5th, 2024 the Discoverer’s Delight XP will be implemented across all realms. Increasing XP gains by 100% across the board. This Season of Discovery XP Buff was initially intended for the level 1-39 range upon the launch of Phase 3 but was moved forward to allow adults to be more viable.
Alongside this Buff, the cost of normal racial mounts and mounting training will be reduced by roughly half at level 40. As of writing, there is no intention to do the same for the level 60 epic mounts though.
Lastly, Gold rewards for Quests in the level 1-39 range will also be increased by a fair bit to allow new players to catch up and keep the economy stable. These adjustments also aren’t planned for Phase 3 and beyond. Yet.
WoW SoD Phase 3 Content
As of writing, we don’t have a launch date for the 3rd Phase of World of Warcraft’s Season of Discovery. We do however know that the level cap will rise to level 50 and there’ll be another 20-person raid at its tail end. Which some suspect to be the Sunken Temple or the Blackrock Depths. We do know however that the new Raid will require 20 players.
For Phase 3 you can expect new Runes, items, and pieces of equipment for you to play around with. There’ll also be yet another large-scale PvP event which will pit the Horde against the Alliance
WoW SoD Phase 4 Content & Raid
While we don’t have a timeline for the 4th Phase of Season of Discovery, we do know what Raid players can expect. Molten Core will make a glorious return where players will team up with 20 instead of 40 other players. This decision was made to bridge the gap between the 10 and 20-player Raids of the previous seasons until the later level 60 Raids arrive.
From the Blogpost it is clear that the developers are still thinking about scaling later raids down to 20 players but their initial goal, in tandem with other content planned for the new level 60 endgame of Season of Discovery is to keep these Raids at 40 players.
There will also be some changes and additions to the itemization of Season of Discovery. As the meta develops and new specs crop up, Blizzard will keep a close eye on how players tackle the various challenges in Phase 2 and Phase 3 and make changes to existing items.
Some of the Raids will also receive some adjustments. They don’t aim to make them significantly harder or easier but adjust them to what they feel players expect.
WoW SoD Phase 5 and Beyond
There is of course much more to come once players hit the level 60 levelcap and clear out Molten Core. Blizzard has already teased extensive plans for the Endgame of Season of Discovery and we don’t even know yet how far this journey take us. Some have talked about taking SoD to the Burning Crusade and potentially well into Wrath of the Lich King.
While there aren’t any plans out in the open yet, you can assume the same level of expansive reworks Blizzard has been employing throughout the Season of Discovery. But expect some surprises, maybe even entirely new or reworked Raids and Dungeons as well as even more changes to existing classes.
And that is everything we got on the upcoming Phases of the Season of Discovery. For more on World of Warcraft check out our guides for Classic, Season of Discovery, and Dragonflight right here.
