Mike Krzyzewski will coach his final home game for Duke on Saturday going up against rival North Carolina.

After one of the most incredible head coaching careers college basketball fans have ever seen, the end is almost here for Duke legend Mike Krzyzewski. While the Blue Devils are ready to make plenty of noise in the NCAA Tournament, Krzyzewski will be on the bench for the last time at Cameron Indoor Stadium on Saturday.

The script is set, with Krzyzewski closing things out against the hated North Carolina Tar Heels. You already know the crowd in Durham will be ready to send Coach K out in style.

Why is Mike Krzyzewski retiring at the end of this season?

Despite Duke being the No. 4 team in the country and still looking like one of the best teams in the country under Krzyzewski’s watch, it was announced before the season that this would be his last dance. Krzyzewski has nothing left to prove, as he’s won 1,429 games with Duke, highlighted by five wins in the National Championship Game.

Don’t forget that Krzyzewski is also 75 years old. While at times it may look like he’s got the energy of someone in their 20s or 30s, Krzyzewski is climbing in age and he’d also like to be able to spend some more time with his family.

When he does officially retire, he’ll go down as one of the best coaches in history, not just college. Krzyzewski has helped countless Duke players go on to have memorable NBA careers as well. He’s loved by Duke fans and that won’t change just because he’ll no longer be running the program. Saturday will be an emotional scene and you can expect plenty of tears to be flying.
