For the first time since 2011, MLB teams in the first three rounds of the postseason will not have playoff patches on their caps.
Over the last decade, a staple to the MLB postseason has been the playoffs decal featured on every team’s cap. The patches first made an appearance during the 2012 playoffs in the Wild Card, League Divison Series and the League Championship Series games that year. The following year, playoff patches were added to the jerseys but were removed by 2019.
While the caps maintained their patches even through last seasons’ playoffs, this year, there will be no patches on neither the jerseys nor the caps, according to Chris Creamer of SportsLogos.net. The patches will be excluded likely due to chain supply issues, Creamer says.

“Let’s be honest, with the delays the world are currently facing with production and distribution it would be a nightmare trying to get these patches (especially to retail) on the caps and jerseys of all ten Postseason teams — some of which wouldn’t be known until just a day before they play and possibly eliminated,” he wrote.
Despite the removal of the patches for the playoff teams, the two teams that make it to the World Series will still don World Series patches on their caps and jerseys as has been the norm since 1988.
