Valve president Gabe Newell has said that the company would be open to working with Microsoft to get Xbox Game Pass on Steam, saying: “We’d be more than happy to work with them to get that on Steam.” PC Gamer recently spoke to Valve’s president about its Steam Deck — Valve and AMD are still working on driver compatibility to allow Windows to be installed for Xbox Game Pass support — and also questioned the company’s thoughts behind creating its own subscription-based service, or whether Xbox Game Pass could find its way onto Steam in the future. “I don’t think it’s something that we think we need to do ourselves, building a subscription service at this time,” Newell said. “But for their customers, it’s clearly a popular option, and we’d be more than happy to work with them to get that on Steam.” Seeing as Xbox Game Pass is available through the Xbox app and through the web browser on Windows PCs, there is a good chance that Microsoft doesn’t need to put the service on Steam. Still, it’s pretty cool that Valve is up for it if Microsoft decides to go down that route in the future. It’s also worth noting that EA Play has been available on Steam since 2020, so there is precedent for subscription services working on the platform. What do you make of this, PC players? Would you like to see Xbox Game Pass become available on Steam, or are you happy using the service through the app and/or browser? Let us know down below!
