Watch Katie Ledecky dominate in the historic women’s 1500m free final.
Team USA’s Katie Ledecky took home her first gold at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics on Tuesday when she absolutely crushed the women’s 1500m free final. For most of the race she was well ahead of her second place competition, who ended up being Erica Sullivan also of Team USA who came from behind to secure the silver.
There was no way anyone was catching Ledecky.
Ledecky was the first ever woman to earn a gold medal in the 1500m free final.
Ledecky’s time of 15:37.34 was about four seconds faster than Sullivan at 15:41.41.

On Monday she swam the same distance in 15:35.35.
“I knew it was going to be tough,” Ledecky told NBC after the match. “I am so happy for Erica.”
Ledecky bounced back from a disappointing silver performance in the 400m. Ariarne Titmus took home the gold in that race.
