It’s been almost four years since we dived into the Watch Dogs Legion achievements for the latest installment of the Watch Dogs series, but we now finally have something new to look forward to from the franchise, as Ubisoft has announced that the Watch Dogs movie has begun filming, but details are currently slim. Ubisoft starts filming the Watch Dogs movie with New RegencyWhile we’ve seen a huge rise in video game movie and TV show adaptions in recent years from the likes of Fallout, Halo, Minecraft, Borderlands, and many more, Ubisoft has been attempting to get a Watch Dogs movie off the ground for over a decade. The publisher originally announced a Watch Dogs movie adaption in 2013 (via Kotaku) — yes, before the first game was released in 2014. Since then, things have been very quiet, but it has now finally started filming.Ubisoft’s announcement on X only gives us a behind-the-scenes shot of the clapperboard, but it gives us confirmation that the film is finally coming. The movie is being made in partnership with New Regency Productions, instead of Sony, who was originally in the development seat. Ubisoft is keeping plot details close to its chest for now, but we might know who’ll be starring in this adaptation. According to a report from Deadline, Talk to Me’s Sophie Wilde and Hunger Games’ Tom Blyth are starring in the Watch Dogs movie. We’ll likely need to wait a while until we can see the Watch Dogs movie in action, but it’s interesting that the company has gone ahead with it, especially as it appears that no Watch Dogs video games are in development right now. Perhaps this is a way to keep players interested while we wait for a new game? We can only hope.
