The vivo Y21 became official a month ago, but it didn’t impress with its Helio P35 chipset and 13 MP main camera. However, the company is working on a more powerful model, dubbed the vivo Y21s, as seen in this leak by Snoopy.

The “s” model comes in the same physical shell and uses the same 6.5” 720p+ display with a notched 8 MP camera. Where differences can be seen are on the inside and on the back.

The camera now boasts a 50 MP sensor with a decently bright f/1.8 aperture (up from 13 MP, f/2.2 on the vanilla Y21). The exact sensor is unknown, but it should offer superior low light performance and some higher quality zooming. It is joined by two 2 MP modules, one macro (3.7-4.4 cm focus distance, about 1.5”) and one depth sensor.

Images from this camera will be handled by the more powerful Helio G80 chipset. Here’s a quick comparison with the P35: both are 12 nm chips, but the G80 has two Cortex-A75 cores in addition to six A55 cores (vs. eight A53 cores), along with a Mali-G52 MC2 GPU (vs. a more basic PowerVR GE8320). And an ISP that can handle the 50 MP camera, of course.

The chipset is paired with 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB storage. The Y21 is a dual SIM phone, but it uses a hybrid slot, so if you need more storage you have to part with the second SIM.

The phone draws power from the same 5,000 mAh battery as the vanilla Y21 and supports the same 18W fast charging. Additional features include a 3.5 mm headphone jack, a side-mounted fingerprint reader and a basic IP52 dust and rain resistance.

Note that this bears resemblance to the vivo Y33s (mostly the same but with a 1080p+ screen) and vivo Y20s [G] (Helio G80, but with a 13 MP main cam like the vanilla Y21).

The vivo Y21s will be available in Europe at a price of €230 (more or less, depending on local taxes) and will come in Midday Dream and Midnight Blue, according to
Sudhanshu Ambhore. It will be joined by the vanilla Y21 (€180 for 4/64 GB, Pearl White and Metallic Blue) and the aforementioned Y33s (€270 for 8/128 GB, Midday Dream and Mirror Black).
