Last year saw V Rising, the vampire survival game, finally hit 1.0. Since then, it’s established itself as a cornerstone of its genre, inflecting the style of design featured in popular games like Valheim, Palworld, or Don’t Starve with vampiric flair. Its creator, Stunlock Studios, hasn’t been resting on its laurels, though. The studio has been hard at work on V Rising’s 1.1 version, which is set to roll out new features over the course of 2025. Now, we’ve been given a glimpse of exactly what’s on the horizon thanks to a dev update post on Steam.

Though V Rising already provides plenty for players to sink their pointed teeth into, we have a better idea of how the survival game is about to expand even further in the future. According to the Steam dev blog, titled ‘Weapons of the Night,’ one of the big features Stunlock is currently preparing focuses on V Rising’s combat.

The post digs into weapons, outlining the coming addition of three new armaments for 1.1. The first of these, the Claws, apply a stacking ‘puncture’ effect that results in serious damage to the target. There’s also the new Twinblade, which takes the form of a knife-ended staff and can be thrown at an enemy that’s then launched into the air before crashing back down where the player chooses. Last, the Throwing Daggers are a ranged weapon that are tossed at enemies before being recalled by magic, ripping into whatever crosses their path.

Each of these choices will also have its own artifact weapon. The Claws are paired with the Talons of the Lich Beast, which can summon skeletons and heal their user while the Twinblade’s counterpart, the Fate Dancers, apply chill effects. The Throwing Daggers’ artifact weapon is the Wraithblades, focused on Phantasm.

Alongside these weapons, Stunlock is introducing a new combat mechanic called Weapon Coating. This change allows players to augment their attacks by applying coatings associated with each magic type and are aimed at, as the Steam blog describes it, providing “one more method you can use to specialize your play style…”
