Hollywood Animal developer Weappy Wholesome has delayed the upcoming simulation and city building game set during the dawn of modern cinema, because there are just far too many videogames coming out. Twisting the metropolis management of Cities Skylines into the murky, early 20th-century world of show business, Hollywood Animal is one of the most promising strategy games of the year. The only problem is that it was originally set to launch in the middle of one of the busiest periods of 2025.
Hollywood Animal puts you in charge of your very own movie studio. That means you need to decide the shape of your next picture, who’s going to be the star, what filmmaking technology you want to invest in, and whose throat to step on to get there. You can be a squeaky-clean executive if you want, but the business might have other plans.
As this is a city building game, you’ve still got to create, manage, upgrade, and dedicate resources to succeed. But movies are about people, and their lives can easily get tangled in your work. Arrogant stars, talented screenwriters, and many others need managing in order for your studio to stay afloat.
To make sure Hollywood Animal gets the launch it needs, Weappy Wholesome has announced that the release date is now delayed. Don’t worry though; it’s not for long.
“We’ve decided to push back the early access release date by a few weeks. The new date is Thursday April 10,” Weappy Wholesome writes. “Yes, this is our second postponement, and we realize that this may be disappointing for some.
“The reasons are obvious: we want to make the game bigger and better, as well as fix as many bugs as possible beforehand – thanks so much to all those who played the demo and helped us polish the game. We’ve also heard that Arthur Gerstein has overflowed February with big releases, so we hope you’ll have a little more time to enjoy Hollywood Animal in April.”
Hollywood Animal was originally supposed to launch on Thursday February 27, but that’s an incredibly packed month for PC games. Next month we’re going to be playing Avowed, Civilization 7, Monster Hunter Wilds, Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, Like A Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, and anything else we can get our hands on. I’ve not even mentioned the upcoming PC games scheduled for the end of January or the start of March either, which add even more timesinks to the pile.
Weappy Wholesome has pushed the Hollywood Animal release date back to Thursday April 10, when it will be released in Steam Early Access. There’s also a Hollywood Animal demo you can try right now. You can find the game’s store page here.
