Who knew that with some makeshift gadgets and a beat-up old station wagon you could survive supernatural disasters? Not me. But that’s exactly what Pacific Drive has taught us. This criminally underrated survival game may have had a slightly bumpy start to life last year, but it’s really found its stride when it comes to providing meaningful and enjoyable post-launch content. Now, developer Ironwood Studios has unveiled what it says is Pacific Drive’s “biggest and best” update yet.

Titled Endless Expeditions, the headline addition of this new Pacific Drive update is, erm, expeditions… that are endless. This new feature lets you embark on continuous road trips around its eerie recreation of the Pacific Northwest in order to earn unique and desirable rewards. Described as “dangerous” expeditions that will “test even the most seasoned breacher,” this is going to add a new layer of challenge and endurance to the survival game.

While details on these endless expeditions are a little thin at the moment, the update’s reveal trailer shows different sprawling layouts on the route planner screen, complete with what looks like different difficulty levels and gameplay modifiers that you’ll have to account for.

Given that you may be on these trips for quite some time, a vital new quality of life feature is being added that’ll help you out in both endless expeditions and in regular adventures. The Suspend Run feature lets you pause and save runs while they’re in progress and will let you jump right back in where you left off without losing any of your progress.

When it comes to other gameplay improvements, there are upgrades to some of the tools your character wields such as the Thermal Vacuum and the Plasma Scraper, a cluster spawning system, and a new trader called Ida that you can encounter while exploring. In terms of extra content, there will be new decorative items to find and display in your garage, new lore-stuffed faxes to listen to, and over an hour of new music on the radio.

“Truly, this is our biggest and best update yet,” Ironwood says, and it’s clear to see why. The endless expeditions alone are going to bring loads more replayability to Pacific Drive, as well as a fresh challenge for those who feel they’ve mastered surviving in their wagon.

The Endless Expeditions update for Pacific Drive will arrive on Thursday, April 3 and will be free for all players.
