Ubisoft has announced Tom Clancy’s XDefiant, a free-to-play first-person arena shooter that brings together various franchises from the Tom Clancy universe into one game. The multiplayer shooter pits two teams of six against each other in what Ubisoft describes as “a high-octane gameplay experience combining fluid and visceral combat with unprecedented freedom and personalisation.” XDefiant features characters (Defiants) inspired by notable Tom Clancy franchise, such as the Wolves (Ghost Recon), the Echelon (Splinter Cell), and the Outcasts and Cleaners (The Division). Ubisoft says it plans to support the game after launch, adding more characters and factions in the future. Ubisoft emphasises that XDefiant is a “shooter first,” but, as with most arena shooters like this, there are also various abilities and gadgets your character can utilise to get an edge on your opponents. Players can “choose their faction, traits, abilities, and ultras, then select from an arsenal of primary and secondary weapons, attachments, and a device to complete their loadout.”If you’re interested in checking out XDefiant, Ubisoft is holding a beta test for PC users located in the US or Canada on August 5th (console beta tests and tests in other regions will be available later this year). Head over to the XDefiant website to sign up. Tom Clancy’s XDefiant will be available on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PS5, PS4, and PC, with full cross-play at launch. Ubisoft has not given a release date for the game, but as soon as we find out more, we’ll update you. What do you make of Ubisoft’s new shooter? Give us your thoughts in the comments.
