UFC bantamweight Trevin Jones reveals that he’s cut weight three times this month due to a series of opponent switches in recent weeks.

The issue of weight-cutting in MMA has been discussed for years, especially with horrific weight cuts such as T.J. Dillashaw’s drop to flyweight and Cris Cyborg’s series of issues during her time in the UFC. But, UFC bantamweight Trevin Jones has done the unthinkable, putting his body through a brutal weight cut three times in a month leading up to his fight with Saidyokub Kakhramonov at UFC Vegas 34.

Jones has been waiting for a fight ever since his knockout win over Mario Bautista at UFC 259. The UFC has tried and failed multiple times to line him up with an opponent before Kakhramonov stepped up on short notice to compete against Jones.

One weight cut has tough enough, even for a professional athlete; but Jones has somehow managed to be weighed-in at the bantamweight limit of 135 pounds on three different occasions in the past month. During his UFC Vegas 34 pre-fight press conference, Jones went into detail about what the past few weeks have been like for him.

“I’ve been on-weight three times this month,” Jones said. “It’s been horrible. I’ve never kept my weight this low in my life. I don’t want to stop my goals. I’m here for a reason, I’m here to be the champion and prove that I’m the best.”

Jones remains undefeated since joining the UFC after brief stints with Deep, ACA, and TFC promotions. His UFC debut didn’t exactly go as planned, in a no-contest against Timur Valiev at UFC Vegas 7.

Despite putting his body through all sorts of challenges in recent weeks, he’ll look to keep up the positive momentum and remain undefeated; hoping for another dominant finish and a statement win in the UFC’s stacked bantamweight division.

UFC Vegas 34 takes place on Aug. 21, 2021, live from the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, NV. Follow along with FanSided for all your live news and highlights.
