Kansas City Chiefs fans thought they lost another star in tight end Travis Kelce, but it was an April Fool’s Day joke.

April Fool’s Day has gotten sports fans, well, terrified. The Cleveland Browns fanbase thought tight end David Njoku was serious about requesting a trade and those who support the New England Patriots thought Julian Edelman was serious about coming out of retirement to sign with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. But, they were all April Fool’s Day jokes.

Kansas City Chiefs fans received quite the scare when tight end Travis Kelce tweeted out that since he “idolized MJ” he was making the jump to baseball and signing with the Chicago Cubs.

Chiefs fans had to be thinking “first we lose Tyreek Hill, and now Kelce?” But, it’s April Fool’s Day. So, no need to worry.

Kelce is coming off yet another impressive season with the Chiefs. He caught 92-of-134 targets for 1,125 yards and nine touchdowns through 16 regular-season games. He did have some big moments when the Chiefs attempted to make it to the Super Bowl for the third-consecutive season, including catching the game-winning touchdown in overtime against the Buffalo Bills in their Divisional Round classic. Yet, Kansas City fell just short of their goal, as they lost to the Cincinnati Bengals in overtime in the AFC Championship Game.

The Chiefs passing attack will look a bit different, even with Kelce on the roster. They brought in former Pittsburgh Steeler JuJu Smith-Schuster prior to the Hill trade, and ex-Green Bay Packer Marquez Valdes-Scantling signed with the team after the Chiefs sent Hill to the Dolphins.

It will remain to be seen how the Chiefs perform in 2022, especially with the AFC and the West division getting tougher.
