Day Two of the 1win Series Dota 2 Summer, a $100,000 (~£78,000) tournament organised by bookmaker 1win, saw an early upset as Group B took centre stage.

In the end, it was Team Spirit and Entity that secured a spot in the 1win Series Dota 2 Summer Playoffs, joining yesterday’s victors Gamin Gladiators and 1win.

With coverage supported by 1win, here’s a recap of what happened on Day Two of the 1win Series Dota 2 Summer.

ESI Lisbon 2024

The first match-up of the day arguably caused the biggest shock of the event so far, with beastcoast toppling the reigning 1win Series Dota 2 champions Entity. The North American organisation defeated Enity in just under 19 minutes with an impressive 28 – 5 scoreline. Luis ‘Lumpy’ Yausin showcased a dominant performance during the short game, racking up a 16/1/7 KDA and over 18,000 damage to enemy Heroes.

1win Series Dota 2 Summer’s second Group B match saw Team Spirit move on to face beastcoast in the winner’s match-up after recording a comfortable victory against Nigma Galaxy. The International 2023 winners recorded the 30-9 win in just under 27 minutes with Magomed ‘Collapse’ Khalilov in particular standing out with a 10/1/11 KDA.

Ultimately, it was Team Spirit that went on to secure the first Group B playoff spot. Team Spirit and beastcoast’s 36-minute match-up was relatively even until the 26-minute mark when the Belgrade-based team took the lead and closed out the BO1. Despite, being behind at some points during the match-up, Team Spirit’s ability to keep the deficit low and win major team fights proved to be vital in the organisation’s 24-19 victory.

Meanwhile, in the loser’s match, Entity managed to bounce back after beating Nigma Galaxy in the tournament’s final best-of-one. The organisation’s 23-minute 40-7 victory not only seemed like an empathic statement, but it eliminated Nigma Galaxy from the event. The results of Group B also gave Entity’s mixed-CIS roster an early opportunity for revenge with a best-of-three match-up against beastcoast deciding the final playoff spot.

In the end, it was Entity that had the last laugh, knocking beastcoast out of the 1win Series Dota 2 Summer with a 2-0 victory. However, despite the series never making it to a third match, the series proved to be a hard-fought battle, particularly the first match. The back-and-forth 43-minute match at one point saw beastcoast have an 8,000 gold lead around the 40-minute mark before Entity mounted an impressive comeback to strike first blood in the series.

The second match, however, was a more calmer affair. Entity managed to take control of the game by the 15th minute and didn’t let the lead go until it ended 46-19 after 44 minutes. Despite the Entity going through to the playoffs, with both organisations recently qualifying for Riyadh Masters and The International, these two sides will likely lock horns again in the near future/

With the 1win Series Dota 2 Summer playoff teams now locked, eyes turn towards the next round of matchups set to take place tomorrow. From now on, the four qualified teams — Gamin Gladiators, 1win, Team Spirit and Entity — will be guaranteed a share of the series’ $100,000 prize pool. The winner of the event will receive $50,000, with second, third and fourth place receiving $30,000, $15,000 and $5000 respectively.

Fans can tune in to Day Three of the 1win Series Dota 2 Summer live on YouTube on June 29th at 11am CET.
