Our chart for the top Xbox games of 2024 once again proves the power of Game Pass, with several on here emerging as clear contenders for the best Game Pass games out there. We also see major releases alongside Game Preview launches — but what emerges on top? Here are the top 100 Xbox games of 2024!Top 100 Xbox games for 2024 – Minecraft continues to dominateThe best Xbox game of 2024 (by most unique players) was MinecraftThe biggest standalone release of 2024 was PalworldThe biggest new, traditional single-player game was Dead Island 2Our chart is compiled from the gameplay data from over 2.4 million active Xbox accounts (our chart information is copyright GameInsights) to give us a run-down of the top 100 Xbox games of the year as judged by the unique players for each game in 2024. Ok, let’s all at least pretend to be surprised that Minecraft is once again at the top of our annual chart — as it was last year, and the year before! Minecraft well deserves its popularity and longevity, and little has been able to budge it out of the top three on our weekly charts, so it’s only to be expected that it still reigns supreme. Call of Duty, meanwhile, was fourth last year but is up to second for 2024’s annual chart. Call of Duty Black Ops 6 was the first CoD game to launch into Game Pass, and so it wasn’t a surprise to see it emerge as one of the ten biggest Xbox Game Pass launches of 2024 either. Fortnite remains at third, while Grand Theft Auto V has been booted to fourth. GTA 6 is set for a 2025 launch, and upcoming sequels usually see a resurgence in players; with GTA 5 already being so popular, it wouldn’t be surprising to see it soar still higher on our weekly gameplay charts next year.Palworld has made it to fifth place on the list of the top Xbox games of 2024. It’s a very impressive feat to rank up there with biggies like Minecraft and CoD, especially considering that it launched into Game Preview right at the start of the year. It had an intriguing premise on its side to start with, however (remember the “Pokémon with guns” description), not to mention the interest regarding its difficulties with the Pokémon company over possible IP infringement. Since then, Palworld has had multiple content updates to invite players back.Halo Infinite didn’t remain in the top ten for this year’s list of top Xbox games and neither did Rocket League (Starfield saw a big fall from fifth to 21st) but we see a big number of new appearances further down the chart. Among these is free-to-play shooter XDefiant, which has actually now been delisted from the Xbox store and announced an upcoming server closure as it hasn’t been able to “attract and retain enough players in the long run” for such a demanding market. We see resurgences from older titles like Elden Ring, which has climbed 23 places in this year’s chart thanks to its major Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, while major new releases like Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl also appear for the first time (Tom had lots of praise for it in his Stalker 2 review!). Just below that is Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. It’s worth bearing in mind that release dates and timings will play into this chart, as Indiana Jones and the Great Circle only launched at the start of December, but judging by the huge praise and player numbers it’s seen, it would likely be much higher if it had launched earlier in the year. Tom also loved this new Indy adventure — take a look at his Indiana Jones and the Great Circle review for more!Joining Game Pass earlier this year has no doubt been partly responsible for the huge boost for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, which has leapt up from 82nd last year to 34th in this year’s chart. The newest AC game, Assassin’s Creed Mirage, isn’t on here, but it wasn’t on the top 100 for last year either. We’re also without a new Assassin’s Creed game for 2024, as Assassin’s Creed Shadows joined the list of every Xbox game delayed out of 2024 so far. There are a healthy dose of new Game Pass launches and older titles joining the service on this year’s top 100 Xbox games, along with several big releases of the previous year like Star Wars Jedi: Survivor which, after launching late in the year, didn’t make it into 2023’s top 100. It’s also great to see smaller indie games on this list, like Little Kitty, Big City at 58th. This adorable cat game had boosted visibility from its addition to Xbox Game Pass, but its own charm earned it a lot of love following launch. Likewise, Another Crab’s Treasure has made it in at 77th. Baldur’s Gate 3, meanwhile, one of the best Xbox RPGs we’ve had for many a year, finally arrived for Xbox at the end of last year, and has made it to 78th on the chart. There’s much more to dive into, but we’ll leave it for you to digest at leisure — check out the top 100 Xbox games of 2024 below!Top 100 Xbox games for 2024 (by unique players)Chart compiled using gameplay data from over 2.4 million active Xbox accounts.
