Pokemon Legends Z-A is bringing back the fan-favorite Pokemon battle gimmick, Mega Evolutions. We will be looking into the top ten Mega Evolutions we want in the game

Pokemon Day brought Pokefans around the world the best news they could get. It’s a brand new Pokemon game set in the regions fans have longed to go back to since its release. The Kalos region was introduced in 2013 with the release of Pokemon X and Y.

The games were Pokemon’s first step into 3D games and had mixed reviews on release. Fans complained the game lacked polish and felt unfinished. Since the games’ release, gamers have wanted a third game in the Generation 6 games in the form of Pokemon Z. However, it seemed like Gamefreak had moved on from the Kalos region, as gamers did not receive any news regarding Pokemon Z.

Now, a decade later, Pokemon Legends Z-A was announced, bringing Pokemon fans around the world with joy and excitement. The teaser also teased us with the return of Mega Evolutions. We will be going through the Mega Evolutions, and we want to make an appearance in the game.

Mega Evolutions are the best battle gimmick ever introduced to Pokemon. Unfortunately, the Megas were removed after generation 7, much to the dismay of many fans. However, with the Megas returning, here are our picks on the top ten Pokemon that require Mega Evolutions.

We will only look at Pokemon from Gens 1-6 as they are the most likely to appear. Pokemon from later generations may make an appearance, but it is unlikely that they will get new Megas. We also heavily feature Kalos Pokemon in this article as, despite Mega evolutions being introduced in their generation, the Pokemon from the Gen did not receive any Mega Evolutions (except Diance).

10. The Kalos Starters

Yes, we said top ten, but we cannot stress how much the Kalos starters need Mega Evolutions. Not only were Mega evolutions introduced in their generation, but other starter Pokemon got Megas before they did. The Gen 1 and Gen 3 starters both got Mega evolutions. Kanto (Gen 1) was not even a part of the third generation of games. The Hoenn games (Gen 3) got a remake in Gen 6, so their starters getting Mega Evolutions makes sense.

The Gen 6 starters MUST get Megas in these remakes. They have needed the Mega forms ever since their introduction. On top of that, Greninja is the only starter Pokemon from this generation to receive any love beyond their generation. Delphox and Chesnaught have been left in the dust for years, and it is time for them to shine in Legends Z-A.

9. Xerneas, Yveltal and Zygarde

We are cheating once more in this list, but this is the last time. Multiple Legendary Pokemon have received Mega Evolutions. Weirdly enough, the only Kalos Pokemon to receive a Mega evolution is Diancie, a mythical Pokemon, only given in a random event. The iconic Legendary trio from Pokemon X and Y did not receive similar love.

We want that to change when we go back to Kalos. The Legendary trio of Kalos have some of the most unique designs in the entire Pokemon Franchise. The Legendaries also have immense lore behind them that was never adequately explored during their time in the spotlight.

Legends Z-A heavily implies the importance of Zygarde in the game. We, therefore, want to see at least Zygarde get a Mega form if not all three of the Legendaries.

8. Talonflame

Talonflame is the regional bird from Kalos. The Pokemon has always been a fan-favourite with a fantastic design and competitive viability. That, however, does not stop us from wanting to see it have a Mega Evolution.

While Talonflame has an excellent design for being a Pokemon based on a Phoenix, it leaves much to be desired. A mega evolution could easily fix that by giving the Pokemon a form where fires engulf its body. The Mega form could also receive the ability drought like Mega Charizard Y.

7. Milotic

Milotic is a majestic Pokemon from the Hoenn region. Despite the Pokemon being obtainable in Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, it did not receive a mega evolution. This came as a surprise for most players as Milotic is considered the Gyarados of Hoenn. While Gyrados received a Mega in X and Y, Milotic was left in the shadows.

Milotic already has multiple fan art that show off what a potential Mega could look like. The sea serpent Pokemon deserves its time in the spotlight again. Especially after all the beauty contests it has gone through to become the majestic being it is now.

6. Dragonite

We know Gamefreak has a bias towards Gen 1 Pokemon. This game will no doubt be no exception. We picked Dragonite for a Gen 1 Pokemon. We want to see get a Mega evolution. Dragonite is already an amazing Pokemon in its own right, being the first pseudo Legendary Pokemon in the games. However, every other pseudo Legendary till Gen 4 has received a Mega Evolution, and we think it’s time Dragonite joins that team.

Will the Mega be absolutely busted? Yes. Do we still think it will be cool? Yes.

5. Ledian

Ledian has long been regarded as a Pokemon with a fantastic design but with absolutely abysmal stats. The Pokemon was introduced in generation 2 and has received no touch-ups since release. It is an absolute shame, as Ledian has a lot of potential as a Pokemon, at least from a design standpoint.

Mega Evolutions have previously made underwhelming Pokemon extremely viable. An example of such a Pokemon is Beedrill. Beedrill is a mediocre Pokemon on its own. Mega Beedill, however, was used competitively in Gen 6. We hope Ledian gets a similar treatment, as we would be elated to see Ledian come back somehow.

4. Haxorus

The Pokemon that deserved to be pseudo Legendary but fell short is Haxorus. The Menacing Pokemon looks the part but does not have the same stats as the fabled psuedos. To continue its streak of bad luck, it did not receive a Mega Evolution either.

Haxorus is a Gen 5 Pokemon. Surprisingly, none of the Pokemon from Unova (Gen 5) got a Mega evolution. Despite coming out right before X and Y, these Pokemon deserved Megas. Haxorus is the most deserving of the bunch. We want to see a triple-axed dragon with its Mega Evolution.

3. Chandelure

Another Pokemon from Unova we want to see get a Mega is Chandelure. The chandelier Pokemon has a great design that has been used competitively for years. Despite it already being good, we think a Mega form would look absolutely insane on the Pokemon.

Pokemon Legeds Z-A focuses on developing Lumiose City in Kalos. The teaser tells us they aim to do this, making the city a haven for people and Pokemon. The best way to integrate Chandelure into the lore is by giving them a Mega that turns them into a Chandelier street lamp. (or something like that… we aren’t character designers, unfortunately)

2. Aegislash

The Pokemon from Kalos that we want to see get a Mega the most is Aegislash. Aegislash is the coolest Pokemon out of Kalos in terms of design and stats. The sword Pokemon deserves a Mega evolution. It is one of the most popular Kalos Pokemon and one of the strongest mons from the generation.

We think a Mega Evolution where Aegislash can turn into a Soulsborne-like sword would be incredible. The Pokemon has huge potential as is, and we are surprised that it has not seen love since its release.

1. Flygon

Flygon. That’s it.

Flygon was supposed to get mega way back in Pokemon ORAS. However, that never came to be. Gamefreak stated they could not come up with a good enough design for the mon. Hopefully, they have come up with something in the decade since their original decision.
