Wreckreation is the upcoming arcade racer from Three Fields Entertainment, a group of ex-Criterion developers with experience working on the Burnout and Need for Speed franchises, and it looks wild.Announced during the THQ Nordic Showcase, Wreckreation gives you a 400sqkm sandbox to build racetracks in any way you want, whether that be conventional down-to-earth circuits or twisting tracks floating in the sky. It’s yours to do with as you want before you then tear around your creations in a suite of customisable vehicles when Wreckreation launches on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PS5, PS4, and PC.Ex-Criterion devs bring Burnout and Need for Speed experience to WreckreationWreckreation’s sandbox environment, called a MixWorld, can be used in almost any way you wish; giving you the ability to decorate it with a plethora of decorative items, as well as build, by the sounds of it, any variation of racetrack you can think of in that awesome brain of yours — it’s practically Minecraft for high-speed racing, crashing, stunting, drifting, jumping, and more… just without so many sharp edges.”In your MixWorld, you are the GameDJ. You now have the power to create and control the gameplay. This can be as simple as creating a quick, individual race to the next intersection or a team stunt event where catching the most air and landing the first barrel roll can help your team take the win,” the website reads. “Grant others temporary powers as ‘Guest DJ’ as well. Try new things, experiment and create your own game modes. Share with your friends or the community.”The Three Fields Entertainment website uses the slogan: ‘Because infinite power is infinitely fun,’ and it sounds like Wreckreation will be offering just that. Your MixWorld can be outfitted with jumps, loops, meet-up points, and a myriad of other options, and allows you to place them anywhere you wish, no matter the terrain. The customisation also covers vehicles, which you can customise with new paint colours, engine sounds, boost flames, and everything in between. On top of that, you get to pick from 16 radio stations to listen to — we’d say there better be a metal radio station, but Wreckreation will allow you to play your personal playlists via Spotify Premium. Wreckreation sounds like an absolute blast to play, and we’re here for it. What about you?
