What do I need to do before The Final Shape launches? Bungie is taking the Destiny 2 servers down for a full 24 hours before its new expansion launches, and there are some things you need to be aware of before that happens.

If you don’t want to waste that huge stack of Legendary Shards before the currency becomes obsolete, or you just want your Guardian to be seen in their full glory in Destiny 2 The Final Shape cutscenes, we’ve got a full list of things you should be doing before the space game‘s servers are taken offline later today.

When do the Destiny 2 servers go down?

Destiny 2 servers will go down on June 3, 2024 at 9AM PT / 12PM ET / 5PM BST and will not return until The Final Shape launches on June 4, 2024 at 10AM PT / 1PM ET / 6PM BST.

Destiny 2 pre-downtime checklist

We’ve all been there. It gets to day one of the new Destiny expansion and you’re suddenly remembering you forgot to complete your seasonal content, or the API is down and you can’t use third-party tools to transfer your gear over. Here’s our checklist of important things to do before The Final Shape launches. Be quick, you’ve only got a few hours.

Verify your audio settings

Very often when a new expansion launches for Destiny 2, the first thing you’ll see before you can interact with any of the game’s features, is a brand-new cutscene. Make sure your audio settings are correct so that you can hear all of the important information that will kickstart the new expansion. With this being the final instalment in the Light and Dark saga, you don’t want to miss anything.

Claim seasonal and playlist rewards

You might think that stacking your bounties from the Hall of Champions or keeping your Wish Engrams means you can turn them all in at the start of the first episode, Echoes, and gain a bunch of rewards. Unfortunately, that logic is slightly flawed as the seasonal and Into the Light content will be vaulted at the beginning of The Final Shape. You worked hard for those engrams, open them! The same goes for your Trophies of Bravery from Onslaught.

Spend your Legendary Shards

The most useful thing to spend your Legendary Shards on are Raid Banners and Phantasmal Fragments. You can get all of these in the Tower from its various vendors. Legendary Shards are becoming obsolete in The Final Shape, so whether you’ve got a stack of 1,000 or 100,000, turn them into something that will be useful.

Gear up your character

It’s a well-known fact that the Destiny API often goes down at the start of a new expansion, whether that’s because of an influx of traffic or Bungie focusing on getting its new content out before reactivating it. Make sure your character has the gear equipped that you’re going to be using throughout The Final Shape. Remember though, you can now access the Vault from orbit, so you won’t need to fly back and forth from the Tower if you do find yourself caught short.

Cash in your Bungie rewards

Playing through the last year of content might have earned you some goodies. Head to Bungie’s rewards page and see what you’re eligible for. I’ve just purchased my adorable little glow in the dark Archie plush, after completing the Where is Archie? questline. You can still earn him too!

Have a Guardian glow up

Change your appearance of your Guardian with the new(ish) Destiny 2 customizable character feature. Even better, if you select the ‘helmet off’ option in your settings, your character’s face will be animated for most of The Final Shape’s cutscenes, so you can see them in their full glory for any interactions they’re involved in.

That’s all we’ve got on things to do in this very limited timeframe before The Final Shape release date. It’s almost upon us, and we’ve curated a list of the new The Final Shape exotics so you can start theorizing your new builds in your head before getting into the expansion.
