Ubisoft confirmed with a short post on Twitter that the incoming Watch Dogs movie has officially wrapped filming. The collaboration with New Regency that began more than a decade ago has finally born some fruit, and it looks like we can probably expect a Watch Dogs movie sometime in the near future, though no official release window has been provided yet.Under director Mathieu Turi filming started at the beginning of July and a little more than two months later, everything’s been shot and wrapped up.Now beings the post-production phase, where the team will presumably spend the next year or less editing the whole thing to put together a final cut of it all. It’s a bit of a crazy thing to see that this project is so close to the finish line at all. After wading in project purgatory for years, barring any unforeseen circumstances it’ll actually be coming out likely within the next two years. But it’s also interesting to think that if the Watch Dogs film had released by say, 2015, two years after the deal was originally made, it would probably be very different than what we’re about to get with today’s version.2019’s Detective Pikachu felt like the first time someone had the idea that films adapted from games and gaming IP don’t have to be terrible. We’re now a long way from that thanks to TV shows like The Last Of Us and Fallout and of course the Sonic films, but the bar is much higher than it was 10 years ago.Borderlands reminded us that video game movies can still be really bad though, so who can say which way Watch Dogs will land.Source – [Ubisoft]
