As impressive as it is that GTA V has blown past 205 million copies sold, for just one game, the big thing to consider is that it was one game – after a series of games that each elevated the popularity of a franchise that earned its stellar reputation. That context is important when comparing it to the Red Dead Redemption franchise, which has just surpassed a milestone of its own that, with this context, is arguably even more impressive.Between just two core games and a DLC expansion, the Red Dead Redemption franchise has sold more than 92 million copies worldwide.Rockstar’s parent company Take-Two confirmed the news in its latest fiscal report, along with the update for GTA V’s sales and the news that Grand Theft Auto VI is set to release sometime during Fall 2025.That’s all fine and well, the gaming world is undoubtedly ecstatic that GTA VI is close to release – but where is Red Dead Redemption 3? That’s the question fans should really be asking. And sure, you could say that Red Dead Redemption also benefited from previous GTA games and the reputation Rockstar established for itself. Of course it did, but it was still effectively brand new – it could’ve bombed, especially since the original title is so far away from what Rockstar’s 2010 and 2018 games. It might as well have been a new IP. So the 92 million between just two games is still a giant feat.Source – [Insider-Gaming]
