Announced last week, the new Apple iPad mini (2024) is now available. The new slate comes with 128GB storage for $500, double what its predecessor had. This is for the Wi-Fi only model, but there is also a Wi-Fi+Cellular version available for $650. If you need more storage, 256GB and 512GB options are available as well.
The key upgrade is the Apple A17 Pro, aka the iPhone 15 Pro chipset but with some downgrades. This, along with the extra RAM (8GB), allows the new mini to run Apple Intelligence.
Apple Intelligence will arrive as a software update soon-ish – iPadOS 18.1 will bring the first batch of features later this month, more features will be added in the coming months. There is a “but” here – Apple Intelligence will be available only in US English initially (essentially, it’s only for people in the US).
The new iPad mini also has faster connectivity. It supports Wi-Fi 6E (ax), up from regular Wi-Fi 6. Also, the USB-C 3.2 Gen2 goes up to 10Gbps, double what the port on the old mini could do.
You can find the Apple iPad mini (2024) over on Apple’s online store.
