Both revenue and downloads are rising in the mobile games market as the industry returns to growth.
We previously analysed 2024’s top grossing games and the year’s top new releases. Here, we take a look at the most downloaded mobile games and the key stories from the top charts.
The estimates are taken from mobile intelligence platform AppMagic and include data for the App Store and Google Play. All estimates are from January 1st to December 23rd, 2024.
Most downloaded mobile games of 2024
The most downloaded mobile game of 2024 was UGC platform Roblox with an estimated 211.9m downloads worldwide across the App Store and Google Play. The title also took the number one spot in 2023, making it a stalwart at the top of the charts.
Hungry Studio’s puzzle game Block Blast ranked second with 205.9m installs, up from fourth position in 2023. It should be noted that these estimates go up to December 23rd, so there is still a week over the Christmas period where the title could snatch the top spot.
Another stalwart in the top download rankings, SYBO Games’ Subway Surfers took third with 172.3m downloads. Supercent’s Pizza Ready and Gametion’s Ludo King rounded out the top five with 168.4m and 167.3m installs, respectively.
At present, 12 titles have generated more than 100m downloads, though more could surpass the milestone by the end of the year.
Overall, the mobile games market accumulated 53.2m downloads worldwide across the App Store and Google Play between January 1st and December 23rd, 2024, a rise of 2.1% Y/Y from the same period in 2023.
The Big Stories
Supercent takes off with Pizza Ready
South Korean games publisher Supercent was founded in 2021. During that year it accumulated 20.2m installs across its portfolio. Last year that figure rose to an estimated 182.8m downloads, while so far in 2024 it has hit 483.7m installs.
Its rapid growth has been powered by pizza restaurant simulation game Pizza Ready, which has proven a smash hit for the company since its release in July last year. It has found itself a niche in the tycoon and simulation space, with titles like Burger Please and Outlets Rush racking up 95m and 72.4m downloads to date, respectively.
Supercent currently ranks as the number 10 games publisher in the world by downloads, with three of its titles, including Snake Clash, making the top 100 most installed titles of 2024.
Offline Games stars
JindoBlu’s Offline Games – No Wifi Games was the big newcomer of the year with an estimated 127.7m downloads in 2024.ranking at number eight. The title has found success across the globe, with 18.2m downloads in India, 11m in Brazil, and 10m in the United States.
The title comes packed with over 20 minigames, from Minesweeper and Hangman to Sudoku and Chess. The offering of a collection of titles in one app and the ability to play them without an internet connection has made it one of 2024’s most installed new games in the world.
Few new releases
None of the top 25 most downloaded mobile games were launched in 2024. The most recent release was Zego Studio’s Wood Screw Puzzle, which was released in December 2023 and ranks 18th for the year.
Meanwhile, Moto Rider, Wood Nuts & Bolts Puzzle, Offline Games and Pizza Ready also launched last year.
My Supermarket Simulator 3D is the top ranking game to launch this year, racking up 71.5m downloads after launching in July, ranking 39th overall for global downloads.
In 2023, two of the top most downloaded games, Monopoly Go and Tic Tac Toe, were launched in the same year. 2022 also saw two titles, Merge Master and Tall Man Run, reached the top 25 after releasing in the same year.
Brawl Stars’ rise
As we noted in our analysis of the top grossing mobile games of 2024, Supercell’s Brawl Stars saw a significant resurgence in revenue this year. That was reflected in downloads, with the title picking up 92.7m installs to rank 16th worldwide.
For context, last year the title ranked 176th in 2023 for downloads with 34.5m installs. It’s a reflection of the title’s rising popularity and Supercell’s confidence to supercharge its UA activity for the game.
