The Last of Us Part 1 Firefly Edition was restocked at PlayStation Direct today but upset fans have taken to Reddit to complain that the store was all out of stock within a whopping total of two minutes. Naughty Dog and Sony Interactive Entertainment had previously said that the Firefly Edition would be sold on a first-come, first-serve basis but PS Direct apparently had no way to mitigate the scalper situation, and one look on eBay confirms who the stock really went to.
The Last of Us Part 1 Firefly Edition being sold for up to $1,200 on eBay
As demonstrated by Reddit user jbDUBS above, eBay has been flooded with listings for The Last of Us Part 1 Firefly Edition. Scammers notwithstanding, a significant number of units sold went to scalpers. The listings range between $500 and $1,200. For context, the Firefly Edition is $99 so the eBay prices are pretty ridiculous especially considering what’s included in the box. As a reminder, here’s what players are getting:
The Last of Us single-player story and Left Behind prequel chapter for PS5
Limited edition SteelBook® display case
The Last of Us: American Dreams Comics #1 – #4 with new cover art
Early unlock of the following in-game items:
Increased Crafting and Healing Speed Skills
9mm Reload Speed and Rifle Clip Capacity Increase Upgrades
Explosive Arrows Gameplay Modifier
Dither Punk Filter and Speedrun Mode
Six Weapon Skins: Black Gold 9mm Pistol, Silver Filigree 9mm Pistol, Rubber Tactical Shotgun, Sculpted Oak Shotgun, Arctic White Bow, Carbon Black Bow
It’s unclear when/if Sony will do something about scalpers at PS Direct. The company has already been trying to manage the situation when it comes to the PS5 with an invite-only system, but unfortunately, it hasn’t really helped.
In other news, Neil Druckmann and Troy Baker appear to be poking fun at Joel’s death in The Last of Us 2, and Silent Hill reveal may be coming sooner than we think.
