However, Naughty Dog later confirmed that the game would not include online play, and instead the project evolved into a separate release.A few months ahead of the PS5’s release in November 2020, Neil Druckmann assured fans that the project would be ‘worth the wait,’ and earlier this year Druckmann said that The Last of Us Online is by far the ‘most ambitious‘ game that Naughty Dog has worked on.News that the game was in trouble however emerged in May 2023, when it was reported that The Last of Us Online had been scaled down and reevaluated.
