Alcyone: The Last City is an upcoming sci-fi visual novel by Australian indie developer Joshua Meadows. The developer has just announced the release date for the game. It’s dropping on April 2nd, 2025, at 6 AM PST.
Originally funded through a Kickstarter campaign back in 2017, the game has been in development for years and is finally set to launch. Once out, it will be available as a cross-platform single purchase on Windows, macOS and Linux/SteamOS via Steam, as well as on Android and iOS.
What Do You Do When Everything Else Is Gone?
Alcyone: The Last City, the visual novel, is about survival, power and making choices that actually matter. It’s a massive interactive novel where the decisions you make change the entire experience, from the paths you can take to the endings you get.
The story takes place in the last city in the universe. Civilization crumbled ages ago, wiped out by an event called the Nihility, which devoured everything at the speed of light. Alcyone, now simply known as the City, was the only place that managed to survive, walled off from the void outside.
For centuries, life has gone on under the rule of the Six Ruling Houses, which maintain order and control. People still live, work and die but not like how it is now. In Alcyone, death isn’t always the end. On that note, catch a glimpse of the visual novel Alcyone: The Last City below.
What Do You Play As in Alcyone: The Last City, the Visual Novel?
You take on the role of a rebirth, a fresh slate with downloaded memories. You can align yourself with the system, break it apart or twist it to your own advantage. Political intrigue, betrayal and survival are the main plots of the game.
With over 250,000 words of branching narrative, every decision opens or closes doors, leading to one of seven core endings. There are five romance options, including aromantic pathways. It also has a deep RPG-inspired character system that lets you build a persona that truly reflects your choices.
If you’re a fan of games like Fallen London or Killing Time at Lightspeed or sci-fi stories like Revelation Space and Pandora’s Star, this is right up your alley. Until the game drops, you can check out its Kickstarter page or official website.
