The Knight Witch is a blend of the Metroidvania, deck-building, and shoot-’em-up genres, and is set to take players on a quest of violence against an army of war golems when it launches on Xbox later this year.Developed by Super Awesome Hyper Dimensional Mega Team and published in partnership with Team17, The Knight Witch combines “fast-paced shoot-‘em-up combat with Metroidvania traversal and exploration, alongside a magic deck-building system.”The Knight Witch announcement trailerThe peaceful underground city of Dungeonidas is in dire straits thanks to a mysterious threat, and the army of war golems besieging it. In a bid to save the denizens of Dungeonidas, the game’s protagonist Rayne takes up the mantle of Knight Witch to use the powers against the unrelenting threat. It’s a Metroidvania-style world without barriers and features “an intuitive on/off ‘auto-aim’ system, world-altering ‘cheats,’ and a focused main story navigation system — players will never get lost and can tailor the game to their level of play.”You’ll have a chance to customise Rayne’s builds to make her an efficient bullet and spell-wielding badass. Her Knight abilities can be upgraded to suit your playstyle alongside over 30 spell cards that accompany the game’s deck-building system. The press release says that “like other Knight Witches, Rayne thrives off the love and adoration of Dungeonidas’ citizens, growing ever stronger with their continued support – players can choose to capitalise on this by lying to the adoring denizens for their own means, or they can be honest, sharing the painful truth to the masses.”The Knight Witch hasn’t been given a release date yet, only that it’ll be coming to Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PS5, PS4, Nintendo Switch, and PC later this year.What do you think of it?
