The Heroes To Pick in Overwatch 2 Season 8

Dec 21, 2023

Do you know which heroes to pick in Overwatch 2 Season 8? Here are the most dominant names right now.

The Overwatch 2 Season 8 arrived two weeks ago, and it brought a lot of changes to a wide range of heroes. Naturally, this changed the meta, meaning some heroes are much better than before.

We’ve already covered the best DPS, tanks, and supports, but now it’s time to take a different approach and cover the most successful heroes of Overwatch 2 Season 8. The stats don’t lie, so let’s begin. Keep in mind we’ve been playing a lot lately and can confirm that the names you are about to see stand out

DPS – Symmetra

If we analyze the stats from Season 8 of Overwatch 2, we can see that Symmetra is the most successful hero. Her win rate is close to 54.50%, which is a lot higher than usual. To be fair, she has always been a solid pick throughout 2023, but she became much better after the most recent update.

Symmetra’s power is the fact that she can help her team escape or reposition in a way that no other hero can. Her wall is often underestimated, but it has the power to change the course of a team fight. Of course, we also need to remember the annoying turret and the fact that they can kill anyone.

Symmetra did not get any changes in the most recent update, but she continues to be among the best options right now.

DPS – Torb

Although Torb’s win rate is a bit lower than the one of Symmetra (53.60), the stats prove he is among the best pick rights now. This most likely does not come as a surprise because he became one of the heroes that received buffs in Overwatch 2 Season 8. Torb received a buff to Overhealth, and the ability gives him 100 instead of 75 HP.

While it is true that he continues to be a weird pick in some situations, overall,  Torbjorn is a hero that works well on most maps. He is fairly easy to play and highly effective against people who don’t know how to play against him.

Tank – Mauga

It is safe to say that no one is surprised Mauga is the best tank in Overwatch 2 Season 8, at least for now. He is extremely strong in pretty much every situation, which explains his jaw-dropping win rate of more than 57%.

One of the most interesting things about Mauga is that the hero received several big nerfs a few days ago. They definitely had an effect on his capabilities, but the stats show that the nerfs were not enough.

It is worth knowing that Mauga was recently added to Competitive Play, and he got several other changes. His base HP was reduced from 350 to 250, whereas his base armor is up from 150 to 200. Additionally, Incendiary and Volatile Chainguns now require 10 shots to ignite the enemy instead of 15, and his spread is down to 1 from 1.1 when he is using only one Chaingun. Lastly, Mauga’s Berserker now has a 60% conversion rate instead of 50%.

Tank – Junker Queen

Although Mauga is in a league of his own in Overwatch 2 Season 8, Junker Queen is also a very solid option. Her win rate is close to 53%, making her the second-best pick right now.

Junker Queen has been a dominant pick ever since she was added to Overwatch 2. Despite being more fragile than other tanks, she has oen of the highest damage outputs in the game. Moreover, she is among the few tanks capable of dealing with flying units (thanks to her dagger).

One of the reasons Junker Queen is vital in the current meta is the buff she has. The devs decided to tighten her spread so it could be more effective against small targets. This gives the hero a lot more fighting presence and makes her an overall better pick than before.

Support – Brigitte

Similar to the situation in Season 8, Brigitte continues to be one of the best Overwatch 2 Season 8 supports you can get. The hero is incredibly strong in the current meta, which is why you always see her. That’s why the current Brigitte Overwatch 2 Season 8 win rate is more than 55%.

What’s really interesting is that Brigitte’s Whip Shot now deals 70 instead of 80 damage. According to the developer’s comments, this was because of the damage boost she got in S7. In other words, Blizzard is trying to revert these changes and see what happens, but from the looks of it, she will continue to lead the support role.

Support – Lucio

The last hero we want to talk about in this Overwatch 2 Season 8 article is Lucio, and he happens to be the 2nd best support in the game right now. Even though his win rate is significantly lower than Brigitte’s (52.88%), there is no arguing this is one of the best heroes you can get in the current meta.

Lucio’s win rate started increasing near the end of Season 7, so we are not that surprised the hero is a solid pick in Season 8. He did not get any buffs or nerfs, which is fine because he remains one of the best picks you can have in a dive setup. Considering this start is big right now, it’s no surprise Lucio is so successful.

Conclusion

The fact that these Overwatch 2 heroes are more successful than the rest does not mean you can’t use them. On the contrary, most heroes are good and can be an excellent option in specific situations.
