Ubisoft has said that it’s “unlikely” The Division 2 will get a native Xbox Series X|S version as it would then “no longer be available” on the last generation of consoles due to the way the game is built.Following Ubisoft’s showcase last week that revealed some of the content we can expect to see arriving in The Division 2 this year, the publisher has said that it’s “unlikely” we’ll see a native Xbox Series X|S version of the game. The Division 2 won’t be taking advantage of Xbox Series X|S hardwareSpeaking with MP1ST, creative director Yannick Banchereau explained why Ubisoft won’t be releasing a current-gen version of The Division 2, which already runs at 4K/60fps on Xbox Series X|S. “That’s unlikely because if we really wanted to take full advantage of those, since we only have one version of the game that is available on all platforms, taking full advantage of those would mean that the game would no longer be available on the old generations”We still have a lot of players that play on all generations, and we are not ready to leave them behind and ask them to upgrade. Right now, we are trying to make sure every time we add something, it still runs smoothly on the old gen as well.”Of course, while the game runs with improved resolution and frame rates on the latest Xbox consoles, it doesn’t take full advantage of everything they have to offer, such as improved load times, ray tracing, and all that other fun stuff. On top of that, with Ubisoft looking to launch the free-to-play The Division Heartland this summer, we do have to wonder if putting extra development time into the four-year-old The Division 2 would be worthwhile. What do you think of this news?
