We breakdown some of the best value buys for Storm Spirit.
Storm Spirit is among the best mid laners in Dota 2 and he is often the go-to option for many people. That’s why we’ve decided to share some of the best items that you can for this hero once you pick him.
Even though there are many popular heroes in Dota 2, only a few of them have as many fans as Storm Spirit. This is an Intelligence mid laner that is known for his snowballing capabilities. As long as the hero gets a good start to the game, he can easily carry his team to victory. That’s one of the reasons why the opposing team usually does everything in its power to prevent this from happening.
While it is true that some people pick Storm Spirit as a safelane carry, he is more useful in the mid lane. The fact that he can get to level six as fast as possible is a plus because once that happens, SS becomes a dangerous foe. Regardless of his go-to lane, Storm Spirit is one of the heroes that need to purchase a specific set of items in order to be effective. With that being said, let’s go over some of the best items that you can get for this hero.
Power Treads
Every hero in Dota 2 needs to get an item that provides movement speed. Although Storm Spirit can be one of the exceptions due to his ultimate, he is among the slowest heroes in the game. Hence, he needs to get at least a PT in order to chase and escape when needed. What makes this item even better is the fact that it can give him INT when needed. Sometimes, this can be enough to escape from dangerous situations.
Orchid Malevolence
Orchid is an item that is often underrated, especially by people with no previous experience. The item is great for several heroes, but it definitely shines the most when Storm Spirit gets the chance to utilize it.
Despite not giving him a lot of stats, Orchid provides a lot of damage, which is great for the mid game. Storm Spirit who gets Orchid has the potential to kill any hero on the map, regardless of its position. In other words, this item allows the hero to control the game’s tempo and gank those that need to die ASAP.
It’s important to note that this item is only practical if Storm Spirit purchases it early on. In other words, it is advisable to get prior to any of the other big items if you want it to be effective.
Kaya
Kaya is a relatively cheap item, but this doesn’t mean it is not worth it. The fact that it costs just 2050 gold means that SS can get it early on and use the extra mana pool, damage, and mana regen. Needless to say, this item also allows you to combine it with all sorts of different things, including Bloodstone. The latter is among the must-have items for every Storm Spirit.
Bloodstone
If there is one item that stands out for Storm Spirit, it has to be Bloodstone. Despite being one of the more expensive items you can get, Bloodstone provides the hero with extra XP, mana, and mana regen. Furthermore, it can be used in tricky situations and save the hero from certain death.
Once Storm Spirit gets Bloodstone, his damage capabilities increase a lot because he can use his ultimate more often. Sometimes, people try to get BS as fast as possible, whereas others rush to get an Orchid and use it to snowball out of control.
Shiva’s Guard
Every item in Dota 2 that provides INT and Mana regen is good for Storm Spirit. So, don’t be surprised that Shiva’s Guard is also among the best items for this hero. However, it is not like Bloodstone and Orchid because it is more situational. This means that you shouldn’t get it all the time because it may not be needed in the current situation.
Shiva’s Guard is one of the few items for SS that provides armor. This makes it great against heroes that rely on physical damage. Furthermore, the items allow SS to slow down his enemies and make the so-called “Storm Bombs”, which can be dangerous.
Scythe of Vyse
Scythe of Vyse is basically the better version of Orchid for Storm Spirit. However, the item is costly, so it is not worth saving for it early on. That’s the reason why most SS players get this item once they already have things, such as Orchid (Bloodthorn), Bloodstone, and BKB.
This item usually works well on almost any INT hero. However, it makes a real difference on Storm Spirit because he can jump and hex someone in mid-air. Needless to say, this will give him and his teammates enough time to score a kill.
Black King Bar
Every core hero in the game needs at least one defensive item, and Storm Spirit is not an exception. This is a hero that is known for being elusive, but he is also incredibly susceptible to disables. That’s why almost every player decides to purchase a Black King Bar at some point during the game.
Unfortunately, BKB does not provide any INT or mana regen, which means it doesn’t provide SS with more damage.
Linken’s Sphere
Since Storm Spirit might get into serious trouble if it gets stunned or silenced, some people prefer to purchase Linken’s Sphere early on. This item is pretty good in some situations, but it doesn’t provide as many stats as things, such as Bloodstone. This means that it doesn’t allow SS to be as offensive.
It should be noted that Linken’s Sphere is only good against single-target spells. In other words, this item is not always practical, especially against massive AoE stuns.
Eul’s Scepter of Divinity
The last item on this list is becoming more popular among Storm Spirit players. While it is true that it is not as effective as the other ones, it can do pretty well in situations where SS needs just a few seconds to stay alive. Don’t forget that the hero can always escape with his ultimate, so having Eul’s can do wonders.
