It’s time to take a look at one of the most interesting heroes in the game — Invoker —some of the best items you can get and how to utilize his full potential.

If one hero in Dota 2 stands out, it has to be Invoker. Unlike every other mid laner, this hero has a unique skill set that allows him to cast significantly more abilities. Although this makes him extremely dangerous, Invoker is also one of the heroes that is hard to master. That’s why you don’t see him that often in the lower MMR brackets.

One of the most important things we’d like to point out about this hero is that he is a definitive mid laner. Some pro teams tried to utilize him as a support, but it is probably not a good idea to do this in pubs. Although he is capable of helping his teammates in numerous ways, Invoker needs a lot of levels to be effective. Needless to say, the hero can’t do that while in the support position.

Once you pick your lane, the next important decision you have to make is related to your items. Invoker is one of the heroes that can utilize almost all items in the game, depending on the situation. However, some of them definitely stand out, so let’s take a good look at what you should focus on.

Boots of Travel

The first item on the list is Boots of Travel. While it is true that this item doesn’t help him cast more spells, it has a massive effect on his survivability. Invoker is one of the heroes that can annihilate the enemy team in a matter of seconds, but he is extremely fragile early on. What’s even more annoying is that he is super slow compared to other top-tier mid laners. As a result, he needs to get Boots of Travel, an item that will also allow him to teleport when required.

Although this item is not cheap, it is something that many Invoker players go for. That’s why it shouldn’t be surprised it’s one of the best items you can get for him.

Hand of Midas

Hand of Midas is one of the “meta items”, which means that there might be cases where you won’t need it. With that being said, Invoker is a hero who needs as much experience as possible and tons of farm. That’s why purchasing Hands of Midas as fast as possible is usually worth it in the long run.

The important thing you need to remember about this item is that you have to get it early on. If you manage to purchase it early on, you can use it for longer and maximize its efficiency. In other words, it is not recommended to go for this item if you fail to get it before the 20th-minute mark.

Aghanim’s Scepter

The first big ticket item that’s a must for every Invoker player; regardless of his position, is Aghanim’s Scepter. It’s one of the items that makes a huge difference for Invoker because his spells gain an additional level. In other words, they become much more powerful toward the late game, which is always good for a spellcaster.

Aghanim’s Scepter is so Important for Invoker that many people for it when they purchase Midas. Although it is not the cheapest item in the game, it is not that expensive either. This means that most Invoker players can get it relatively early on and be more efficient during team fights.

Eul’s Scepter of Divinity

A couple of years back, this used to be one of the most popular items for Invoker. While it’s true that many people use it defensively, Eul’s can help Invoker land his deadly Sunstrike, Chaos Meteor, and Deafening Blast combi, which is usually capable of killing almost any hero in the game.

For better or worse, this spell combo is not as popular as it once was. This definitely has an effect on Eul’s popularity, but some people purchase this item to use it defensively. Don’t forget that you can always use it on yourself, followed by a quick Ghost Walk.

Blink Dagger

Blink Dagger is one of the items that may not look good on Invoker at first. However, it can do wonders because the hero requires to have a good position in order to “function”. The fact that you can blink in and use your spell combinations during team fights makes this item really special. Let’s also not forget that it is cheap, so you can get it early on and utilize its potential for longer.

Besides using it offensively, Blink can also work well when you want to escape from tricky situations. Since Invoker doesn’t have that many defensive mechanisms, having a reliable tool to use when needed is important.

Scythe of Vyse

Having the ability to hex someone from the enemy team is always a plus. That’s why it probably doesn’t come as a surprise that Invoker works well wiith this item. Besides allowing him to hex someone, Scythe of Vyse also provides loads of Intelligence, as well as mana regeneration. These are all important stats for the hero, making this item one of the go-to options for every Invoker player.

Refresher Orb

This is one of the items that can do wonders in many situations for a number of heroes. However, Invoker is the mid laner that benefits the most because he can cast all of his spells a second time. Needless to say, this makes the hero one of the most dangerous spell casters in the game because he can literally kill the entire team if he lands good sun strikes and meteors.

Unfortunately, Refresher Orb is expensive, and it costs a lot of mana to use. That’s why most Invoker players purchase it during the late game.
