Mobile gaming is great, right? That’s probably why you’re on a website about Android gaming. But sometimes touchscreen controls just don’t cut it. Sometimes you want to attach a controller and feel dirty buttons under your thumbs.
That’s why we’ve written this list. It’s about the best Android games you can play with a controller in 2022. There’s a decent mix, from platformers to fighters, action games to racers.
You can click on the names of the games below to download them from the Play Store. Unless otherwise noted, they’re premium. And if you’ve got your own favorite, let us know in the comments section.
The first of a number of excellent, puzzling platformers on this list. Teslagrad is all about magentism and special powers, and exploring a long abandoned tower. It looks great, there are big bosses, and you should probably play it.
A spectacular action-platforming roguelike with super-slick combat and a challenge level that’s almost guaranteed to keep you coming back for more punishment. There’s loads of DLC that adds new biomes and more to the experience as well.
Probably the best multiplayer shooter on mobile, and it’s even better with a controller. Packed full of modes and guns to unlock, there’s always something to do and someone to shoot, and it’s always getting new stuff.
A dark-fantasy adventure that sees you hacking and slashing your way through subterranean depths. The combo system is even better with the precision of actual buttons. It’s free to try, with an IAP to unlock the rest.
This one challenges not just your dexterity, but your conviction as well. It’s as much about religion and devotion as it is leaping from place to place. That’s not to say the leaping isn’t ace, though – it absolutely is – and it’s even better with buttons.
What’s better than a big, premium racing game? One that you can play with a controller, obviously. Grid Autosport pretty much sets the bar for AAA racers on mobile, and if you’ve got petrol in your veins you should go to a doctor, then check it out.
Brawlhalla is pretty good on mobile, but the inherently crazy nature of the scrapping can be tough on touchscreen. Throw in a controller and it’s on a par with the other versions of the game. It’s free with IAP.
This one’s a peaceful game about exploration and connection. It gives you a huge world to explore and make friends in. It looks amazing, it’s filled with a special kind of joy and it’s great with buttons. It’s free with IAP.
A viking-themed platformer with some really bright ideas and a lovely art style. You’re bouncing and slicing your way through the levels, and we imagine you’ll be doing it with a smile on your face. The first chunk is free with an IAP to unlock the rest.
A magical metroidvania with a unique control style that sees you springing through the levels. It’s deep and challenging, it looks amazing, and it’s even more fun when you’re using a controller.
