Learn more about the battle system and characters of Bandai Namco’s Tales of Arise with the second developer message for the game.

Tales of Arise Producer Yusuke Tomizaka takes to the screen in this developer message to discuss how they took the theme of “inheritance and evolution” and applied it to this title’s battles and character expressions. He stated that the movie scenes and field areas have been designed to help players feel a close attachment to the characters.

Art Director Minoru Iwamoto mentioned that his team put an emphasis on Tales of Arise’s face and body movements, using both facial capture and motion capture technologies. Careful mouth movements, movement of the eyebrows, and facial angles have all been accounted for.

Project Director Hirokazu Kagawa stated that the development team is always looking to improve its action battles. As things have gotten more complex, the team wanted to create an action RPG that anybody could enjoy. Attacks and evasion have been balanced with the implementation of a “Counter Edge” mechanic, and the inclusion of “Boost Attack” and “Boost Strike” has been designed to set a good tempo for battles and their combos.
