If there’s somethin’ strange, in your neighbourhood, who ya gonna call? The TA news team! We’ve delved into the darkest depths of the horror-filled Xbox sales to wrangle some monsters into submission, and offer them to you as sacrificial lambs. You’re welcome. Just the four picks for you this week — Sean simply shouted “LITTLE NIGHTMARES!” then ran away. Not sure what that was all about…Heidi — Tails of IronTails of Iron might revolve around rats and frogs, but in scope it’s anything but small. Tails of Iron is an epic tale of revenge and reclamation, as Redgi, heir to the Rat Kingdom, works to reclaim his lands and save his people from the invasion of the Frog Clan. The art style is beautifully endearing, but you should never let it lull you into a false sense of security — Tails of Iron is tough, as you might expect from a game which gleefully describes itself as having “punishingly brutal combat.” You’ll be facing everything from frogs to grubs, switching up your armour and weapons as you go to best suit your preferred style. On top of fighting to reclaim your kingdom, you’ll also be searching for ingredients for new meal recipes, finding blueprints for new weapons and armour, and exploring the world of Tails of Iron. It’s an absorbing and challenging game, and well worth picking up for 20% off. Tails Of IronTails of Iron is an epic RPG Adventure with punishingly brutal combat. As Redgi, heir to the Rat Throne, you must embark on a perilous quest to reclaim your Kingdom. Explore a deceivingly charming world. Assemble a band of brave companions. Banish the merciless Frog clan… once and for all!Kes — Sleeping Dogs: Definitive EditionYou hear ‘Sleeping Dogs’ and you start thinking that you can’t wait to start playing with a cute labrador down the beach, tiring him out, and putting him to sleep in the back of the car. Wrong. This is Hong Kong and you’re a cop trying to take down the triads. Why is that heavily tattooed man’s face in a moving air conditioning fan? Because you put him there with a mighty roundhouse kick that sent a heavily tattooed man’s poor inadequate body soaring into a moving air conditioning fan, that’s why. Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition is a superb Xbox One remaster of Square Enix’s open-world game. The Hong Kong of Sleeping Dogs is brimming with confidence: from the surprisingly gripping story, to the environments radiating with cultural ambiance. The voice acting is great and I have always loved the mix of languages used to give you a more well-rounded game than the normal Anglo-voices that seem to populate the worlds of non-English-speaking countries. The fact that the game delivers on this with some violent, but gratifying martial arts combat, a great parkour system, and some fun little side activities is all the more reason to pick this up. In fact, I would probably pop Sleeping Dogs in a collection of underrated games that you should get your hands on as soon as possible before it ages out. There is still a bit of clunk about it that can drag it down and, while environments are packed with detail, the character models are looking rough in this day and age. The driving I have also never been a fan of — GTA V just ruined all other open world game driving for me. However, for the price, do yourself a favour and pick it up. I know I’m going to head back to it right after writing this! Sleeping Dogs™ Definitive EditionYou are Wei Shen, an undercover cop trying to take down the notorious Triads from the inside. The Definitive Edition of the award winning open world action adventure, rebuilt and remastered for Xbox One. With all previously available content from the X360 included and a wealth of new improvements, Hong Kong has never felt so alive.Luke — Death’s DoorThere’s so much to love about Death’s Door that it’s hard to know where to start. The twitchy little crow protagonist, a reaper of souls sent forth to intervene in a world where residents are refusing to die; the amazing rogues’ gallery of enemies and bosses, who come in all shapes and sizes and will give our feathered friend a real workout; the gorgeous fantasy world that just keeps getting bigger and weirder; rock-solid combat that allows for both melee and ranged approaches. Death’s Door feels like a proper evolution of Titan Souls, the studio’s previous game, with the team proving that it’s just as capable of presenting more complex and involved combat as it is quickfire one-hit-kill action. It’s a fantastic blend of exploration, puzzle-solving, and fighting, and it’s stylish as hell, from the noir hub area to the rich and varied dungeons that litter the land. While certainly challenging in places, Death’s Door isn’t an overly long or demanding completion. You’ll need to 100% it, but you’ll likely want to do that anyway, so the only achievements you need to go out of your way for are the situational ones — things like using specific abilities to damage bosses or beating the game using only the awful umbrella weapon (which isn’t as tricky as it sounds, as you can just spec for ranged damage and never actually use the brolly). It’s one of this year’s best games for sure, and while this might not be the biggest price drop, Death’s Door is an easy recommendation even at full price, making any discount at all a great deal.Death’s Door [Xbox]Reaping souls of the dead and punching a clock might get monotonous but it’s honest work for a Crow. The job gets lively when your assigned soul is stolen and you must track down a desperate thief to a realm untouched by death – where creatures grow far past their expiry and overflow with greed and power.Tom — ThiefIn the spirit of shadowy goodness, I decided that my love of stealthy characters fit the month’s theme perfectly. When it comes to dark, grim, and gothic adventures, who better to take pride of place than sticky-fingered and (surprisingly) moral-bound master thief, Garrett, from Square Enix’s 2014 reboot, Thief? The game takes place in ‘The City,’ a dark fantasy-themed environment that is rife with disease and poverty, ruled by a tyrannical Baron and the wealthy. The dire situation has led to The City’s population inciting a revolution against the Baron, which has offered Garrett the perfect opportunity to put his skills to work and steal everything he can get his mitts on from the pompous rich folk. One of the best features Thief has to offer is the completely customisable difficulty settings, which allow you to change every aspect of the game to create a challenging — or breezy — playthrough. In fact, it offers a ridiculous amount of replayability. The aim of the game is to use stealth to steal as much as you can throughout the game’s various missions by keeping to the shadows, taking down enemies, using a variety of gadgets, and picking your pathway to the objectives. It’s good fun, and one of my favourite stealth-based games to date, and it’s had 85% taken off of its price during the Shocktober Sale, which makes it… a steal.ThiefGarrett, the Master Thief, steps from the shadows into the City, a treacherous place ruled by a tyrannical Baron and his brutal Watch. When the citizens rise in bloody revolution, Garrett’s thieving skills are all he can trust as he walks a fine line between politics and the people, revealing a darker secret that threatens to tear his world apart.Any of these picks creeping their way into your collection?
