We hope you’ve had a good adventure on the streets of South Park in September’s TA Playlist feature, South Park: The Stick of Truth, but now that the month is drawing to a close, it’s time to announce the winner of the October Playlist poll.October is a month of ghosts, ghouls, and goblins, so we selected four Spooky Sequels for this month’s poll. Not necessarily horror games per se, but games featuring horror themes, and each the second in their respective franchise. The nominees included Dead Island 2, Alan Wake 2, and Resident Evil 2, but all those zombie games were shambling a bit too slowly to keep up with our winner, Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II.Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II, developed by Ninja Theory following the breakout success of 2018’s Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice, and published by Xbox Game Studios, continues the story of the 9th-century Orcadian warrior Senua as she battles enemies both human and supernatural, while also struggling with her own psychosis. Senua returns in a brutal journey of survival through the myth and torment of Viking Iceland. Intent on saving those who have fallen victim to the horrors of tyranny, Senua faces a battle of overcoming the darkness within and without. Sink deep into the next chapter of Senua’s story, a crafted experience told through cinematic immersion, beautifully realised visuals, and encapsulating sound.Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II has a strong TA User Rating of 4.07/5.00, with over 110,000 tracked users earning at least one achievement, and more than 16,000 (around 15%) battling their way to the full completion. It’s estimated to take 6-8 hours to unlock all 11 of the game’s achievements, seven of which are story-related and unmissable. There are two collectible achievements, but with only six chapters and a convenient chapter select, these aren’t quite so bothersome as collecting Chinpokomon in South Park this month. Hellblade II is available on Xbox Game Pass for Ultimate-tier subscribers. Here’s the full breakdown on the votes. Hellblade II took the lead right from the start, and it was really never even close. The other three lingered together at the back of the pack, with Dead Island 2 and Resident Evil 2 trading off for second and third, and Alan Wake 2 (the only full-priced offering not on a subscription service) bringing up the rear.As always, you can earn your TA Playlist badge by unlocking any achievement in Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II during the month of October, or by posting a substantive comment in the Spoiler and Spoiler-Free threads that will be posted on October 1. Even if you’re not planning to play the game, you can join in the discussion on the TA Playlist Hub to discuss your journey with Senua.
