January is drawing to a close, so while we hope you’ve been enjoying the challenge of navigating the Moscow underground in our current TA Playlist Game of the Month, Metro: Last Light, it’s time to come back to the surface and announce the winner of our February 2025 TA Playlist poll.February is the second month of the year and is defined for many by the couples-focused Valentine’s Day right there in the middle of the month, so we brought back an appropriate theme from February 2023 for another run. “Two for Two 2: The Sequel” featured four games with a co-op focus and “two” or “2” in the title. Overcooked! 2, Unravel Two, and It Takes Two all returned from the previous poll, but it was the new addition that stole the show in this sequel, running out to an early and insurmountable lead. Your winner and TA Playlist Game of February 2025 is Portal 2!Portal 2 is the 2011 sequel to Valve’s ground-breaking action-puzzle game, Portal, which was originally released in 2007 as part of The Orange Box collection, and then received a standalone arcade release, Portal: Still Alive, in 2008. Published by Electronic Arts, Portal 2 expands the story of the original while also introducing a fantastic co-op multiplayer mode since twice as many portals mean twice as much fun!Welcome back to the Aperture Science Testing Facility, where silent protagonist Chell must once again use her wits, reflexes, and portal gun to overcome a series of test chambers and make her way out of the facility. GLaDOS returns for the sequel (Still Alive, after all), along with new robotic companion Wheatley and the voice of Aperture Science founder and CEO Cave Johnson (J.K. Simmons), as you uncover the history of the test facility and make your escape. Portal 2 also features a well-made co-op mode, where you and a partner can work through an entirely different set of Test Chambers with increasingly complex and convoluted solutions… for Science!Portal 2 has a stunning TA community rating of 4.62/5.00, with nearly 274,000 tracked games having unlocked at least one achievement and just over 15,000 (around 6%) going on to earn the full completion. Unlocking all 50 achievements is estimated to take around 15-20 hours, though if you get stuck on any of Portal 2’s physics-bending puzzles, the on-site walkthrough from N18p73pwn3r, along with a good co-op partner, might help you navigate the test chambers more quickly.Portal 2 is not currently available on any subscription services, but it was one of the final Xbox 360 games to be given out with the now-defunct Games With Gold program, so check your game collection because you might already own this one. This was another decisive victory, with Portal 2 jumping out to an early and insurmountable lead. Interestingly, the other three games finished in the same order (and nearly the same percentages) that they did in the original “Two for Two” poll two years ago, so it seems the community’s thoughts on these three games are pretty consistent. As always, you can earn your TA Playlist badge for the month by unlocking any achievement in Portal 2 between midnight on February 1 and 11:59 pm on February 28 (UTC), or by posting a substantive comment in either the Spoiler or Spoiler-Free discussion threads that will be posted at the beginning of the month. A reminder about the forums: the badges no longer get awarded for forum participation on a daily basis in order to give the moderators time to manually weed out any “badge only” comments, so if you’re participating by forums only, it may take a little while longer for your badge to show up. Rest assured, as long as you haven’t been notified that your post doesn’t count as “substantive,” the badge will be awarded before the end of the month. Thank you to everyone who makes an effort to post their thoughts about the games, good or bad — the TA Playlist is all about the discussion, and we appreciate all of you joining each month!
