Deus Ex and System Shock creator Warren Spector is working on a brand-new IP, OtherSide Entertainment has confirmed. In a press release, the developer described the project as an “immersive simulation based on a completely new intellectual property.” No further details were revealed and OtherSide didn’t say what platforms the game is in development for and when it’s planned for release.Expect another immersive world like Deus Ex“It feels great to be working with a talented team on a new title and new IP,” Spector said in a statement. “Fans of my work already know what to expect: an immersive world and engaging narrative that players will directly impact through their choices and playstyles. We are still in early development and are looking forward to sharing more information soon!”A year ago, Spector said that he wouldn’t be comfortable making Deus Ex in today’s world because the game’s plot touches upon subjects that are central to modern conspiracies. Deus Ex features various topics including vaccinations, and Spector said that he wouldn’t want to fuel any wild theories today. “The conspiracy theories we wrote about are now part of the real world,” Spector remarked. “I don’t want to support that.” He added that he’s amazed and a little spooked seeing “how accurate our view of the world ended up being.”Opinion: A new game in the vein of Deus Ex, pleaseZarmena writes… It’s a shame Spector isn’t comfortable crafting a plot similar to Deus Ex anymore. I’m not a huge fan of sims but I have a weakness for immersive worlds with complex futuristic stories akin to Deus Ex. I don’t blame Spector for not wanting conspiracy theorists to have a field day with his fictitious ideas, though. Nevertheless, I look forward to his next project. And if anyone from Square Enix is reading this, please greenlight a new Deus Ex, for the love of all things holy.In other news, Returnal has earned eight BAFTA nominations, and it doesn’t look like Quantic Dream’s Star Wars is doing too well right now.
