Survival is the game my inner-child dreams about

Set a day after the events of the 1993 movie, Jurassic Park: Survival will put us in the shoes of stranded InGen scientist Dr. Maya Joshi, who must fight for survival on the dino-filled island of Isla Nublar. It’s a single-player first-person action-adventure game, and while we don’t have a release date just yet, Jurassic Park: Survival is expected to launch on Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC.Being a 32-year-old man in the year 2023 means that, as a boy, I was fortunate enough to grow up during the glory days of the Jurassic Park franchise — toys, plushies, clothes, books, lunchboxes, everything and anything; you name it, you could get it with overgrown lizards plastered all over it. The 90s were a good time for a young dinosaur lover who dreamt of being the kid in The Lost World: Jurassic Park, who looks out of his bedroom window to see the overly large head of a T-Rex — my dream didn’t include the T-Rex eating my dog, but I probably would have seen it as a fair trade. As video games continued their push into everyone’s homes, I had many games based on Michael Crichton’s incredible franchise, but it wasn’t until I played The Lost World: Jurassic Park’s tie-in game of the same name on PS1, that I truly felt immersed in the world. You can check out a full playthrough of the game on World of Longplay’s YouTube channel, but it was an action-adventure game that saw you playing as a Compy, Velociraptor, T-Rex, a hunter, and Sarah Harding. It was fun; it let me live out a fantasy of being a dinosaur, and it looked amazing… to me as a kid in the late 90s.While The Lost World: Jurassic Park stole many hours from me as a young boy, it didn’t offer the heart-pounding yet wonderous adventure the characters in the movies were experiencing. For something similar, we had to rely on the incredible Dino Crisis from Capcom, but it didn’t scratch the itch that something based directly on the Jurassic Park franchise would have for me.Now, over 20 years later, Saber Interactive is in the driving seat of the game that looks, by the tiny amount of gameplay revealed at The Game Awards, to offer the exact gameplay I would have let a T-Rex eat my dog for as a kid. Jurassic Park: Survival is almost the game I wish I had — almost, for the fact that not having it led to many fond memories with The Lost World, which I will cherish for the rest of my days. It’s still early days for the game, and we don’t have a release date just yet, but Saber Interactive has revealed some exciting tidbits that have grabbed my attention. According to the official site, Jurassic Park: Survival will offer a never-before-told story as we “experience the wonder and danger of dinosaurs, each with their own distinct and adaptive behaviors brought to life by John Hammond’s vision.” We’ll need to find intelligent ways to survive the prehistoric creatures roaming the “fully-realized” island of Isla Nublar, which includes memorable movie locations from the “iconic towering park gates to the Visitor Center and beyond.”Ingenuity, stealth, and distractions will be our tools to survive on the island filled with “reactive wildlife, dinosaurs, and other surprising threats…” and I can’t wait! From that one trailer, it looks like we could be in for an adrenaline-fueled adventure, indeed, and with Saber at the helm, I have high hopes that the team can deliver a game worthy of its title. We don’t have a release date just yet, but you can be sure that we’ll let you know when that exciting Xbox Series X|S release date is revealed for Jurassic Park: Survival. Our list of the best Xbox games is sorely lacking in the dinosaur department, and it would be great to see Survival join the ranks of amazing Xbox games. No pressure Saber!
