The Subnautica 2 system requirements are live, and one of the most wishlisted games on Steam is still aiming for an early 2025 access release date. Despite a seven-year gap since the original game came out, the system requirements haven’t spiraled out of control, and you can still play the game on an Nvidia GeForce GTX GPU. One unfortunate oversight, however, is the lack of performance targets to let us know what to expect from each tier.
While the Subnautica 2 release window is still set for 2025, no exact date has been confirmed yet. Despite this, we already have the minimum and recommended specs you’ll need to play Subnautica 2. While you won’t need the best graphics card on the market, if your gaming PC only just about ran the original game, you’re going to need some upgrades.

Take our Subnautica 2 system requirements PC benchmark test to answer the question… Can I run Subnautica 2?
The Subnautica 2 minimum requirements are a step up in every way, compared to the original game’s specs. You’ll need an Intel Core i5 8400 or AMD Ryzen 5 2600 CPU alongside an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 or AMD Radeon RX 5500 XT GPU.
You’ll only need 8GB of RAM, too. It’s getting rarer for games to only demand 8GB of system memory, so if you want to get ahead of the curve, you can upgrade to some of the best gaming RAM for your gaming PC. It’s one of the cheapest and simplest upgrades you can currently make.
As for the Subnautica 2 recommended specs, you’ll need an Intel Core i7 13700 or AMD Ryzen 7 7700X paired with an Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 or AMD Radeon Rx 5600 XT.
There are no performance expectations listed alongside these system requirements, so it’s hard to predict what resolution or frame rate is being targeted.
The Subnautica 2 download size is currently listed as 25GB, which is only 5GB more than the original. There is no mention of needing an SSD at either tier, but we still recommend one of the best SSDs for gaming so you can experience the benefits, such as faster downloads and faster in-game loading times.
