Since Starfield’s announcement, many have wondered if it’s possible to manually fly to a planet’s surface, and now, Twitch streamer Alanah Pearce (Charalanahzard) has the answer after spending seven hours freely flying to Pluto. While landing on the planet wasn’t possible, the test does offer a decent look at how space travel works when collecting the Starfield achievements. You can fly close to planets in StarfieldThe stream can currently be viewed on Charalanahzard’s Twitch channel, which documents the entire journey from Pluto’s orbit to close to the planet’s (super low-resolution) surface. Pearce left the stream running during the test and went to bed, waking up every 30 minutes to readjust the ship’s trajectory to account for Pluto’s actual orbit. Speaking about the journey on X, Pearce said, “I was wrong about space travel being small skyboxes/zones you can’t actually leave. They still *practically* are and I still don’t imagine you can fly between systems (100+ hour test for that), but you can absolutely get up close to the objects that represent ‘planets.’When replying to a user asking about the purpose of being able to travel to planets like that, Pearce said: “It’s still not really a thing — you can’t do anything where you get there and it’s super low-res as you get closer because it’s definitely not designed for you to do it.”Starfield is currently playable for early access members but will join some of the best games on Game Pass later this week when it launches on Xbox Series X|S and PC.
