Stardew Valley remains one of the best life sims around, and solo developer Eric ‘ConcernedApe’ Barone continues to make it even better. While today sees the console and mobile versions of the game getting all of the new features introduced since patch 1.6, there is still plenty of change for PC players too in this fresh Stardew Valley update. Not only have mountains of bug fixes and balance changes been dumped onto the town, but there are plenty of new features to look out for too.
There are plenty of unique items to be found and earned in Stardew Valley, but if you’re careless, you may find yourself losing one forever with no way of getting it back. It may be one of the best relaxing games ever made, but there’s nothing more stressful than seeing a one-of-a-kind item getting wiped from your inventory. Well, thanks to Stardew Valley’s 1.6.9 update, you’ve now got a backup plan. “If you lost an item that can’t be found again, a new friend appears in the secret woods who can get it back (for a price),” the patch notes for the update read. So, while your funds will take a hit for your loot laxity, it doesn’t mean it’s the end of the line for your precious unique items.
Similarly, should items accidentally find themselves splashing into the lakes, rivers, and ocean of Stardew Valley, there is also now a second chance for you to salvage them. They will float for a “short time” after hitting the water, “so you can collect them if you’re quick or have a magnet ring.”
Elsewhere in 1.6.9, those of you who love to catch and farm fish will be pleased to learn that legendary fish can now be released into your farm’s ponds. These are the trophy catches for Stardew anglers, and now they can live in a pond and produce legendary fish roe while they’re at it. Each one has a unique color when in the water too, so everyone will know exactly which of these iconic catches you managed to reel in. Note though that you can only have one legendary fish per pond.
While there are no hints as to what they may be or where you may find them, new easter eggs have also been added into Stardew Valley – secret hunters, do your thing. PC players can also access hidden cheat commands that require you to edit the save file of your game.
