Outside of experiments like Heroes of the Storm, most of Blizzard’s properties haven’t rubbed shoulders with each other too often. While some developers and publishers cross everything over with merry abandon, like in the case of Sony with Astro Bot or Fortnite with literally everyone, Blizzard has always tended to keep things in their own lanes. Until recently, that is, with a loosening of the bonds between properties. That’s continuing now with Hearthstone, which is getting a brand new mini-set from the sci-fi universe of StarCraft.
Hearthstone is absolutely a Warcraft game. Everything in it, from heroes to cards to adventures, is 100% Warcraft themed, apart from the occasional card here and there from somewhere like Diablo. Now everything’s going to get a little more galactic, as StarCraft is entering the card game with a new set that’ll add 49 cards across all three of its galactic factions.
Each of the existing heroes in Hearthstone have been split up between the factions. Joining the Zerg swarm are Death Knights, Demon Hunters, Hunters, and Warlocks, who’ll be led by legendary human/Zerg hero Sarah Kerrigan. The Protoss will be getting all mystical and mysterious, as you’d expect, with Druids, Mages, Priests, and Rogues. They’ll also get Artanis on their side, a powerful Protoss hero who seeks to restore the glory of his people.
Our beloved Terrans will receive Paladins, Shaman, and Warriors, with everyone’s favorite ex-biker Jim Raynor leading the charge. Terrans will also receive the ability to command Battlecruisers which will use the Starship mechanic as seen in the most recent expansion, The Great Dark Beyond.
The Hearthstone Heroes of StarCraft mini–set will be released in January 2025. You’ll also be able to spot Grunty, the murloc who likes to go around in heavy armor, and there’ll be new music straight from StarCraft itself.
