Players are traveling far across the galaxy to unlock the Star Wars Outlaws achievements, and since its launch last week, director Julian Gerighty has now had a chance to reflect on Outlaws critical reception. Despite being a “little disappointed” with the Star Wars Outlaws review scores, Gerighty says the team plans to improve the open-world Xbox game. Massive is pushing “a lot of improvements” for Star Wars OutlawsStar Wars Outlaws has a Metacritic score of 75/100 for the Xbox version, 76 on PlayStation, and 77 on PC — all very respectable scores — but for Ubisoft and Gerighty, it seems they wanted the “first ever open-world Star Wars game” to have scored a little higher. Speaking with GamesRadar, Gerighty said that despite the lukewarm reviews, the public is responding well and connecting with Outlaws. “I’m a little disappointed with Metacritic. Of course, recognition from press and critics is very important to us, but players are really connecting with what we did.”Honestly, it’s brought me so much joy to see the incredible images being captured and shared. And I think that’s proof positive that this is an experience like no other Star Wars experience before, that lets you step into this world and enjoy some virtual tourism.”Gerighty says the team feels a “level of pride, happiness, and a sense of accomplishment” with what went into Star Wars Outlaws, and during its four-year development period, Massive “literally reached for the stars.” He also believes that Outlaws is a game “that millions of people are going to play for years and years” and that the team is “never going to stop improving it,” before adding, “Well, that’s a lie,” he laughs – we’ll probably stop improving it, but today my mind is not on stopping improving it.”We’re pushing a lot of improvements. We don’t want to let it go. They’re going to have to kick us out the door. And that’s improvements, not just on the base game, but it’s things that we’re going to deliver later on this year and next year with the downloadable episodes that we’re creating.”In our latest Xbox Gameplay Chart, Star Wars Outlaws made its debut in the top 20, which isn’t bad considering it only released in full four days before our data was collated.
