It’s fair to say that Star Wars Outlaws hasn’t quite managed to hit the highs we all might have hoped to see it achieve. While by no means a bad game, it definitely feels like it landed like an X-Wing on Dagobah rather than the firm crunch of the Millennium Falcon on Tatooine. That’s not to say there isn’t hope, however, as the game’s canopy has yet to sink under the swamp waters. A new creative director at the top of the game has posted a fresh dev update, and there’s plenty to look forward to for the title.
As our own Star Wars Outlaws review attests, it doesn’t climb into the annals of the best Star Wars games you can play. Our main complaints relate to it feeling rather dull at times – not something you’d really expect as a blaster-wielding criminal on the galactic rim. It’s yet to be seen if that core problem with Star Wars Outlaws can be truly resolved, but there’s still lots on the way, as new creative director Drew Rechner announces over on the official blog.
“Your feedback has already resulted in three Title Updates in which we’ve focused on fixing some of your biggest concerns such as bugs, reducing major friction points in some key missions particularly around stealth, adjusting the speeder camera and collision, and much more,” the post reads. “That being said, there are three key areas in which we’re looking to improve the game even further.”
“The first key area of improvement to the game is combat where we see a real opportunity to add more depth and excitement to the experience, further rewarding your tactics and precision. Our second key area is stealth which is not only about improving the readability and consistency of enemy detection, but also providing choice in how you want to approach each encounter,” Rechner continues. “Finally, our third key area of focus is centered around the character controls, which means improving the reliability of cover, increasing the responsiveness of climbing and crouching, and generally improving the consistency of the controls overall.”
It’s yet to be seen if these changes will be able to truly affect the wide-ranging ennui that fans have felt with the title, but at least the community won’t have to wait long to see them implemented. These improvements should coincide with the launch of the first story pack for the game, Star Wars Outlaws: Wild Card.
